Mobile Belles Leadership Program

Mobile Belles Leadership Program Leadership program for high school girls that fosters poise, stewardship, and leadership.

The Mobile Belles Leadership Program is a very special program sponsored by the Historic Mobile Preservation Society since 2008. Designed to instruct high school students in Mobile history and historic preservation, the Mobile Belles are a diverse group of young women who confidently and knowledgeably serve as guides at the Oakleigh Historic Complex and the Richard's DAR House Museum. They also pa

rticipate in special events such as Christmas at Oakleigh, Mobile’s Historic Homes Tour, an annual fundraiser, and more. The Belles, dressed in attire of the mid-19th century, also make special appearances for many activities related to tourism, civic celebrations, and presentations. In the course of carrying out their duties, they not only have an opportunity to absorb the history of their city from a unique perspective, but gain valuable experience in public speaking and interacting with visitors from all over the world. Selected each February in a competitive interview setting, Oakleigh Belles must maintain a “B” average in school. They must possess leadership qualities, and have a passion for history.
