September is the ideal time for a little R&R~ Join us as we embark on a journey down Recovery Road! Wings Across Alabama is honored to showcase individuals who support our exceptional Alabama Peer Community. We posed the question, " What does recovery mean to you?" Here is a powerful response.

Recovery, to me, is not about being “fixed” or returning to who I used to be. It’s about learning to live in a way that feels more honest, peaceful, and sustainable. It’s giving myself permission to heal at my own pace, to celebrate progress even when it’s small, and to accept that setbacks don’t erase growth.

Recovery means reclaiming my voice, my choices, and my worth. It’s remembering that I am more than what I’ve been through. Regardless of my upbringing, my circumstances, or trauma, I have made a choice. I am a volunteer, not a victim. I do not have to repeat patterns or behaviors—I can break the cycle. The choice is mine, and I choose to live.

Above all, recovery is hope—it’s the belief that I can continue moving forward, even when the path isn’t clear, and that I deserve to create a life filled with meaning, love, and possibility.
