Today is International Overdose Awareness Day. 💜

For many of us, overdose is more than a statistic. It is someone we knew, someone we loved, someone we miss.

We remember every life lost and hold close the families, friends, and loved ones who continue to carry that loss.

May we continue to lead with compassion, look out for one another, and work toward a future where fewer families have to experience this kind of loss.

Breaking the Cycle: Understanding Substance Use, Recovery & Resources

Join us September 29 for our next Policy Pulse: Alabama HIV Series as we have an open, judgment-free conversation about substance use, recovery, stigma, and the resources available to individuals and families.

Tuesday, September 29
6:00–7:00 PM CST
Virtual on AIDS Alabama & AIDS Alabama South's pages
20–30 minute presentation followed by community Q&A

We’ll talk about how substance use can intersect with HIV prevention and care, housing, mental health, and other social determinants of health, while focusing on compassion, support, and meeting people where they are.

We’ll also discuss:
• Barriers to seeking support and recovery
• How stigma can prevent people from accessing care
• Community resources and support services
• How advocates and service providers can better support people who use substances
• The role of social support in recovery and overall health
• And, of course, OctSober!

PLUS: Stick around until the end! The first 5 people to complete our post-webinar survey will receive a $15 gift card.

Come as you are, bring your questions, and join the conversation.

Sunday, August 30, is National Faith HIV/AIDS Awareness Day.

For decades, communities of faith have been part of the response to HIV, offering support, opening doors, providing resources, and caring for people when they needed it most.

At AIDS Alabama South, we recognize the important role faith communities can play in changing how we talk about HIV, encouraging people to know their status, supporting access to prevention and care, and helping reduce stigma.

We have made incredible progress. HIV is treatable, prevention options are more effective than ever, and people living with HIV who reach and maintain an undetectable viral load cannot pass HIV on through s*x. U=U.

Today, we recognize the faith communities doing this work and encourage others to join us in creating a future where everyone can access HIV testing, prevention, treatment, care, and support with dignity and respect.
