Open to all residents of the Old Dauphin Way Historic District, the organization is run by a Board of Directors elected every January by the general membership.

A few days ago, we shared the beginnings of Monterey Place. Now, let's take a stroll and see how it looks today—still a charming and beloved area of the Old Dauphin Way Historic District.

With its beautiful historic homes, shady streets, and welcoming atmosphere, Monterey Place continues to reflect the vision that helped shape it more than a century ago. It's a neighborhood full of character, history, and the kind of architectural details that make you slow down and take a second look.

Whether you've lived nearby for years or simply enjoy exploring Mobile's historic neighborhoods, Monterey Place is a wonderful reminder of the people, places, and stories that have helped make our community what it is today.

We've already heard from several past and current residents what it means to them. We'd love to hear your stories and see your pictures!

And bonus, we love seeing all the Old Dauphin Way Historic District flags!!!

Tucked within our beloved Old Dauphin Way Historic District, Monterey Place offers a fascinating glimpse into the city’s rich architectural and cultural past. Lined with historic homes — each with a story to tell — the neighborhood includes notable landmarks such as the Kate Shepard House.

Monterey Place was one of Mobile’s earliest planned subdivisions, developed by George Fearn, one of the city’s most influential 20th-century residential developers. Fearn is best known for shaping several of Midtown Mobile’s historic neighborhoods, as well as for the iconic 1904 George Fearn House on Airport Boulevard. Through thoughtful planning, beautiful architecture, and carefully designed landscapes, he helped create some of Mobile’s most charming and enduring residential communities.

Take a step back in time with us as we look at the beginnings of Monterey Place — and stay tuned for future posts showcasing how this historic neighborhood looks today.
