NEST is introducing its new Life Skills Certification Program, specifically designed for juvenile justice and educational settings. To expand its reach to at-risk youth, NEST has enhanced its traditional Life Skills Program and adapted it for use in schools and youth-serving organizations. Pictured from left are Family Advocate Whitnei Guidry, Team Advocate Ashley Daigle, Life Skills Program Coordinator Lori Sharpe, and Executive Director Carole Grant.
This summer, NEST staff are conducting sessions at the James T. Strickland Youth Center, working directly with youth in detention. The curriculum focuses on essential life skills, including self-awareness, mental health, personal hygiene, soft skills, school dropout prevention, and financial literacy. Research indicates that youth who participate in life skills education are less likely to reoffend and are better prepared to make positive decisions for their future.
Upon successful completion of the program, participants receive a certificate and a Healthy Living Bag. The Life Skills Program is made possible through funding provided by the City of Mobile and The J.L. Bedsole Foundation.
