Remember to Cover Your Toes!!

Summer safety tip: cute shoes, smart choices. ☀️👡

Open-toe shoes, sandals, and slides can increase risk on escalators, especially near step edges. Stand in the center of the step, hold the handrail, and keep feet away from the sides. Always take the elevator or stairs if wearing open-toed shoes.

A little awareness goes a long way this summer.

Memorial Day weekend is almost here, and for many, that means a long weekend filled with travel, cookouts, family time, and fun. As we head into one of the busiest travel weekends of the year, the Elevator Escalator Safety Foundation encourages everyone to slow down, stay aware, and make safety part of the plan. Whether you’re at the airport, hotel, shopping center, stadium, or local attraction, a little extra attention goes a long way in helping everyone get where they’re going safely.

At EESF, we are proud to call both Indianapolis and Mobile, Alabama, home. That means this weekend brings excitement in very different ways. For our friends in Indiana, it is Indy 500 weekend in the Race Capital of the World. For those heading out to celebrations, festivals, beaches, or backyard gatherings along the Gulf Coast, enjoy every minute and play it safe.

Most importantly, Memorial Day is a time to pause and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. We remember their sacrifice with gratitude and respect. Wishing everyone a safe and meaningful holiday weekend.

Safety is not just policies, procedures, or checklists. At its core, safety is about people.

It is about the parent teaching a child to stand clear of closing doors. The mechanic working behind the scenes to keep equipment running safely. The building manager asking good questions. The teacher taking a few minutes to share life-saving awareness with students.

The smallest moments of education can create the biggest impact.

At the Elevator Escalator Safety Foundation, we believe rider safety works best when it becomes part of everyday conversations, shared knowledge, and community care.

Because when people know better, they ride smarter.

Thank you to every industry professional, educator, facility manager, parent, and advocate helping make rider safety part of the conversation.

Together, we are building safer communities, one rider at a time.

As the school year winds down, now is the perfect time to start planning for student safety in the 2026–2027 school year.

Across the country, schools are already beginning conversations about curriculum planning, safety initiatives, and special awareness weeks for next year. That makes right now one of the best opportunities to introduce rider safety education into your district’s plans.

Did you know that millions of students use elevators, escalators, and moving walkways every single day in schools, stadiums, airports, malls, and community spaces, yet rider safety education is rarely taught?

The Elevator Escalator Safety Foundation (EESF) encourages school districts, administrators, school safety teams, and educators to consider incorporating rider safety education into their annual safety programming, especially during National School Safety Week or other designated safety awareness initiatives.

Our educational resources are designed to be simple, engaging, and age-appropriate, helping students learn everyday habits that can prevent injuries and build confidence around vertical transportation.

A few minutes of education can make a lifelong difference.

If your school district is planning for the 2026–2027 school year, now is the time to start the conversation.

Happy Friday from EESF!

The weekend is here, which means many of us are heading out to airports, hotels, shopping centers, ballgames, graduations, and summer fun. That also means a lot more elevator and escalator rides.

So here is your quick Friday safety reminder:

Escalators are not amusement rides.
Face forward, hold the handrail, and keep shoelaces, long clothing, and bags away from the sides and steps.

And for elevators? Take a second to watch your step entering and exiting, especially when carrying luggage, strollers, or distracted by phones.

A few simple habits can make a big difference.

Have a fun and safe weekend, everyone!

Stay Sharp. Ride Smart.

Did you know that elevator and escalator safety education doesn’t just happen in classrooms?

Every time an industry professional takes a few moments to teach safe riding habits to a child, parent, school group, senior center, or community organization, they are helping prevent injuries before they happen.

That is the heart of the Elevator Escalator Safety Foundation's mission. Simple conversations. Clear messaging. Real impact.

We are incredibly grateful to the industry professionals, companies, inspectors, mechanics, consultants, and supporters who continue helping us spread rider safety education across North America.

Together, we are building a stronger culture of safety, one rider at a time.

Stay Sharp. Ride Smart.

One month ago, we hosted our very first SafeTAmbassador online webinar. We expected a small turnout and were grateful when 8 dedicated members joined us. At the end of the webinar, we simply asked them to help spread the word so we could reach more children with elevator and escalator safety education.

What happened next completely blew us away.

Today, we have received more than 2,400 requests for safety packets, and the calls continue to come in daily.

This incredible growth is a direct reflection of the people who attended that first webinar and believed in the mission enough to share it with others. Because of them, rider safety education is reaching communities, schools, families, and organizations far beyond what we imagined possible in just one month.

To everyone who attended, shared, supported, and continues to advocate for safety: thank you. You are helping us create a ripple effect that could protect thousands of children and families.

This is exactly why EESF exists. Stay Sharp. Ride Smart.

Today, we celebrate the moms, grandmothers, stepmoms, guardians, caregivers, and all the women who help keep families moving safely through life.

From holding little hands on escalators to teaching children to stay alert around elevators, mothers are often the first safety teachers we ever have.

On behalf of the Elevator Escalator Safety Foundation team, Happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing women spending their lives protecting, guiding, teaching, and loving others well.

We hope your day is filled with rest, laughter, hugs, and maybe at least one uninterrupted cup of coffee.
