"Cat’s Out of the Bag

'And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.' Romans 8:28

Have you ever felt lower than dirt? There was a time in Bible College when I did. I began comparing myself with other students. Everyone seemed better than me. This comparison kept discouraging me and tugging at my thoughts. Finally, I decided I was not going to live my life that way.

When we begin comparing ourselves to others, it is like letting an angry, wet cat out of a burlap bag. He scurries around, claws at everything in his path, and wreaks havoc. That comparison cat can cause catastrophe if we don’t keep him where he belongs.

It is so easy to look around and feel lower than dirt by comparing yourself to others. But the Lord does not want us to feel that way. He loves us and tells us in His Word He will work all things together for our good.

Is the “comparison cat” scratching and clawing at your life? Perhaps you are a musician who feels inferior because those around you seem more talented. You may be struggling as a new teacher because you consider yourself subpar to others with years of experience. Shove that old cat back in the bag. God has put you where you are for a reason. He has given you the talents you have for a purpose. Why not memorize today’s text verse? It will help you to keep the comparison cat right where he belongs."

"Farewells Are Not Final In Christ

'And when we had taken our leave one of another, we took ship; and they returned home again. And when we had finished our course from Tyre, we came to Ptolemais, and saluted the brethren, and abode with them one day. And the next day we that were of Paul's company departed, and came unto Caesarea: and we entered into the house of Philip the evangelist, which was one of the seven; and abode with him.' Acts 21:6-8

Some of the most touching scenes in Scripture are not great miracles or dramatic sermons, but quiet moments of love between believers. When Paul met with the Ephesian elders at Miletus, they wept, embraced him, and sorrowed most of all because they believed they would see his face no more. Later in Tyre, wives and children accompanied Paul and his companions out of the city, and there on the shore they all knelt down and prayed together. I can almost see it. Tears, prayers, hugs, love, and the weight of knowing suffering was ahead.

Those moments move me because they remind me how deep Christian fellowship really is. This was not shallow friendship. This was not people who simply enjoyed the same schedule or shared the same city for a while. This was spiritual family. These believers loved Paul because they were united in Christ. They had labored in the same gospel, suffered in the same cause, and cherished the same Savior. That kind of bond is powerful.

And yet, as emotional as those farewells were, they were not truly final. That is what I love to remember. When believers in Christ part ways, even when it feels painful and permanent in this life, the separation is temporary. There will be a reunion. Every farewell between saints carries hope inside it because Jesus has conquered death. For the child of God, “goodbye” is never the last word.

I think about the reunions that are waiting for us in glory, and they must be beyond anything we can imagine. We will see loved ones who died in Christ. We will see faithful servants of God who have gone before us. Best of all, we will be with Jesus Himself, not merely by faith, but in His presence. What a day that will be.

So, when parting comes, I do not need to collapse under sorrow as though hope has vanished. Grief is real, and tears are not wrong. These believers wept, and that love was beautiful. But I can weep with hope. I can pray with confidence. I can let go for now because in Christ there is coming a reunion where we will never be separated again."

Thanks to all of you that prayed for us last night (Monday) at the Mission of Hope for our monthly father's training. We had great response to "The Power of the Father's Blessing" training and forgiven ceremony for over 40 men. It is always a blessing to see men make life changing decisions that gives them a chance for restoration for the future. Continue praying daily for these men. Some are dads, some are grandfathers and even one great grandfather. Pray God will speak to them and draw them to Him! Pray for the funds to continue coming in that allows for this 90 day addiction recovery process to be free of charge to those that need it.

Schedule change! We would appreciate you prayers for my son Joe and me at the Mission of Hope tonight. (Monday) We'll be there for our monthly training. Tonight "The Power of the Father's Blessing." Pray we have have the Word that God wants us to share with these men. Pray for each of the men as they leave a dark world behind and move into a new world of successful addiction recovery. That they can restore the trust and their relationships with children, family and friends. Joe McDonald Ministry Inc.
