"Eeyore or Encourager?

'Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad.' Proverbs 12:25

Are you an Eeyore? Perhaps you remember the donkey from the classic Winnie the Pooh children’s stories. Known for being depressed and negative, he was the perfect example of what we as Christians are not to be. Instead of being an encourager, Eeyore cast a gloomy shadow everywhere he went. It almost seemed as if he had a rain cloud perpetually hovering above his head.

There are so many people who go through life acting like Eeyore. Rather than sharing the joy of the Lord with others, they hide beneath an ever-present rain cloud. Consumed with their problems, they refuse to allow the light of Christ to shine through their clouds. In our text, we read that one good word of encouragement can make another person’s heart glad. It does not take much to uplift our brothers and sisters in Christ. Sometimes all it takes is a few simple words.

Do you feel as if you have been living your life beneath a rain cloud? Have you been wallowing in the puddles of your own self-pity? The best way to get rid of the gloom is to allow Christ to shine through your life. Take the time to encourage someone today. Let His marvelous light break through your rain clouds."

One of my favorite verses is: "...the demon answered, “Jesus I know, and Paul I know, but who are ye?” The possessed man leaped on them and overpowered them..." Joe McDonald

"Count the Cost

'And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds. Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver. So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.'Acts 19:18-20

In Ephesus something astonishing happened when God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul. Even handkerchiefs and aprons from his body were used by God to heal the sick and cast out evil spirits. In this epicenter of occult activity, God demonstrated unmistakably that His power far surpassed every counterfeit.

When the seven sons of Sceva tried to manipulate the name of Jesus without knowing Him, the demon answered, “Jesus I know, and Paul I know, but who are ye?” The possessed man leaped on them and overpowered them.

After the failed attempt of seven Jewish exorcists to cast out a demon in the name of Jesus whom Paul preached, fear fell on the city. The power of God had been unmistakably displayed. Acts 19 tells us that those who had practiced curious arts brought their books together and burned them before all present. They counted the value and found it to be fifty thousand pieces of silver. This was not a symbolic gesture. It was costly obedience.

Fifty thousand pieces of silver likely equaled the wage of fifty thousand working days. In modern terms, that could represent millions of dollars. Imagine gathering books, scrolls, charms, and materials tied to occult practices and piling them up in the center of the city. Imagine striking the match. The flames would not only consume paper and ink. They would consume pride, reputation, and financial security.

They did not negotiate with sin. They did not sell the books quietly to recover their losses. They burned them publicly. They severed ties completely. What needs to be burned in our lives? What influences, habits, entertainment, or hidden compromises are we tolerating because they are valuable or comfortable? If something dishonors Christ, it is too expensive to keep.

When we are willing to cut whatever is necessary to serve Him fully, the Word of God will grow in us and through us. Count the cost of sin with clarity."

"What Jesus Celebrates - May 27, 2026

In Luke 15, Jesus tells three stories of something lost and something found. A lost sheep. A lost coin. And a lost son. At the end of each story, Jesus describes a celebration. The point is clear. Jesus is happiest when the lost are found.

Jesus rejoices because he knows what awaits the saved. In Heaven, you will at long last, have a heart just like his. Guiltless. Fearless. Tirelessly worshiping. Flawlessly discerning. Jesus also rejoices that we are saved from hell. He says there’s only one sound there, and that is the “weeping and gnashing of teeth.”

Every person you meet has been given an invitation to dinner. When one says yes, celebrate! When one hesitates, urge him to get ready. You don’t want anyone to miss the party." Max Lacado

"...Religion can be complicated. But the gospel is clear. Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures. He was buried. He rose again on the third day. Whoever believes in Him has everlasting life.

There will be a moment when opportunity ends. The door will close. That is why the message is urgent. Get right or get left. Do not gamble your eternity on effort or heritage. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. That is how you get it right." Dr. Jim Scudder, Jr.

"MAY 21, 2026:
SMALL STRAWS IN A SOFT WIND
by MARSHA BURNS:

Do not get befuddled by the changes that are taking place and will take place. Be strong and steady as you move through the days ahead. Every day is a new day often with unexpected events that you must endure and work your way through. But, this is a time of unusual spiritual growth and development as well. Seek My face for direction, says the Lord. Isaiah 26:3 You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You."

"Can Shorty Be Saved?

'But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost.' Titus 3:4-5

There’s a question that tests whether I really believe the gospel I preach: “Can a man on death row, guilty of a heinous crime, be saved the same way as anyone else?” Not cleaned up, not reformed, not with a reduced sentence—but forgiven and assured of heaven by grace through faith.

I used to go into death row in Louisiana to visit a man we’ll call “Shorty.” He had committed a crime so awful that if I described it to you, you’d feel sick. Humanly speaking, he was the sort of person we’d say doesn’t deserve another chance. And in one sense, that’s true—but then again, neither do I.

Shorty had read my dad’s book, Forever With God, and had come to a clear understanding of the gospel. He understood that Jesus, the innocent Son of God, died for all his sins and rose again. He understood that he couldn’t pay for his sin—not with time served, not with good behavior, not with religious effort. And then Shorty did the only thing any of us can do: he put his faith in Jesus as his substitute.

He was next in line for ex*****on, but delays kept pushing the date back. In the end, he never faced the ex*****on chamber; he died a natural death in prison. But he died knowing—really knowing—that the moment his heart stopped, he would be in the presence of the Lord. Not because of the life he had lived, but because of the Savior Who had died in his place.

People struggle with that. “How can God forgive someone like that?” they ask. My answer is sobering: if the blood of Jesus can’t cover Shorty’s sin, it can’t cover mine either. The cross is either sufficient for the worst of us, or it’s sufficient for none of us.

Grace is shocking. It offends our sense of fairness. But that’s precisely why it’s called amazing. The good news is not that God helps the good become better; it’s that God justifies the ungodly who simply believe in Jesus. And if He can save a man on death row, He can save you—right where you are, with all that you’ve done—by faith alone in Christ alone."

“...And you will come to understand that life is not defined by the abundance of options, but by the weight of the choices that you make within them. And those choices, more often than not, are not dramatic or obvious, but quiet and compounding, forming the blueprint of your life long before anyone else can see what you are building...” Erika Kirk

"MAY 13, 2026 SMALL STRAWS IN A SOFT WIND
by MARSHA BURNS:

Have you gotten weary? Ask the Lord to renew your strength so that you can go as hard as you can for as long as you can. God will renew your strength. It is not up to you to decide when to quit; you can quit when He says that you are done. Amen!

1 Corinthians 9:24 'Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one received the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it.'"

Thank you for your prayers for son Joe and me last night at the Mission of Hope. We had 48 men participate in "The Power of the Father's Blessing" training. Great response to the training and forgiven ceremony.

"Thirsty for Mercy - May 8, 2026

Ephesians 4:32 says, “Be kind and loving to each other, and forgive each other just as God forgave you in Christ.”

Because Jesus has forgiven us, we can forgive others. Because he lives in us, you and I can do the same. Oh, I could never do that, you object. The hurt is so deep. Just seeing the person makes me cringe. Perhaps that’s the problem: you’re seeing too much of the wrong person. Try shifting your glance away from the one who hurt you and setting your eyes on the One who has saved you.

Please understand. Relationships don’t thrive because the guilty are punished but because the innocent are merciful. Are there any relationships in your world thirsty for mercy? Is there anyone who needs to be assured of your grace? Jesus made sure his disciples had no reason to doubt his love. Why don’t you do the same?"
