🥫🥕 Dwell is a partner with Feeding the Gulf Coast!

In the past, Dwell Mobile hosted monthly food distributions. Now, we have transitioned to having an on-site food pantry. In partnering with FTGC, we can provide more shelf-stable and fresh produce to our community.

We are grateful to an agency partner with FTGC for our neighbors, but we still need YOUR help in getting some food pantry items. Screenshot the list seen at the end of this video or see it in our stories. Donations can be dropped off at our offices Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm.

📢 Volunteers Needed! 📢

Join Dwell Mobile and build relationships with your refugee and immigrant neighbors!

• Dwell Connect - volunteer with students elementary to high school age in our tutoring program. One-on-one volunteers for homework and enrichment activities are needed as well as volunteers for summer programs!

• Dwell Goods - help us organize and categorize donations, assist customers, and more in our thrift store!

• Front Office/Admin - help create a welcoming environment for our neighbors and community. Volunteers are needed in the afternoons to greet and direct clients as needed, answer phone and take messages, and help serve neighbors out of food pantry. Spanish speaking is a plus, but not required. Must be at least 18 for this volunteer position.

• Food Pantry/Food Drive - help sort and organize food on delivery days, maintain goods, check expiration dates, etc. Or host a food drive to fill our pantry!

You can buy things.
But you can’t buy family, community, or support.

Family, community, and support are essential pillars needed to thrive. They are also the very things many refugees struggle to find when arriving in the United States.

Think about learning to drive. Chances are someone helped you:

• A parent
• A friend
• A community member

Now imagine navigating traffic laws, directions, and language barriers in a brand new country — without family or community to guide you.

Dwell’s social adjustment services and English Language Learning classes exist to help bridge that gap.

Our work is built on the idea that relationships are vital.

We have the privilege to step into spaces where family or community normally would. Even a small amount of support added to a refugee’s determination, tenacity, and perseverance can help them overcome obstacles and attain their goals.

Dwell Connect is one program sustained by your generous giving! 🎒

Twice a week, more than 20 children, from elementary to high school join in this tutoring program where learning, life and play come together! Students receive one-on-one homework help, build English Language art skills, and have fun during interactive, game-based learning activities.

Dwell Connect has also partnered with other local organizations for educational field trips. Students visited the Mobile Museum of Art to get up close and hands-on with art, while also creating their own! They also learned about healthy food options and grocery shopping basics at The Continental Kitchen in partnership with the Hispanic American Business Association (HABA).

Community Roots, our monthly giving program, is one of the easiest and most powerful ways to support Dwell Connect now and into the future as we provide support to refugee and immigrant children. 🌱

🌱 13% of our Community Roots goal reached!

It may seem small, but each monthly gift is steady support ensuring critical programs are available for refugee and immigrant families. A little over a year ago, the refugee resettlement program was paused, resulting in a significant change in funding to programs across the nation, including Dwell. As immigration policy changes, Dwell closely follows changes in development, adjusting the services we offer to support families, just as we did one year ago.

🌎 Once again in the midst of ongoing uncertainty, Dwell is facing more funding loss. Our goal is to have $40,000 in monthly, recurring gifts which will allow Dwell to sustain operations and program services so we can continue to support families every month as they journey toward self-sufficiency. All because of your generosity, we have been able to consistently assist 200 refugee and immigrant neighbors in our community!
