Presented by Spire Energy, Mac Down celebrates the roaring Gulf Coast food scene and timeless tradition of this beloved staple. The proceeds of Gulf Coast Mac Down benefit The Cookery Project, a local 501c3 nonprofit.

Since the beginning, Amanda has been part of the Gulf Coast Mac Down story, bringing her love of food, storytelling, and coastal culture to our judges’ table.

Born in Brooklyn and raised just outside Boston, Amanda has always been fascinated by local food culture, especially of the American South. She earned a B.A. in English Literature from Florida State University and an M.A. in English with a concentration in Creative Writing from the University of South Alabama.

Now based on the Gulf Coast, she is the former creator of Lemon Baby, a food and entertaining website centered on Gulf Coast traditions and culture. She now writes fiction, food essays, and a growing body of work inspired by her love of the natural world. She lives with her husband, two children, a Border Collie, a crested gecko, three ducks, and a Bourke’s parrot.

Her current projects include a nonfiction book about birds and a magical realism novel rooted in family history. Find more of her work (and the occasional feathered cameo) on Instagram at .

She knows her cheese, and she's back for more! We're thrilled to welcome Mallory Scyphers back to the judges' table for her 5th year at Gulf Coast Mac Down! Mallory is the Editor in Chief and Creative Director of culture magazine: the word on cheese, a nationally distributed magazine dedicated to the people, places, and stories behind great cheese. She is also the founder of The Fairhope Cheese Post, a Mobile Bay area cheese business offering curated boards, subscriptions, tastings, and events. Through both roles, Mallory has made a career and a small business out of eating, writing about, and sharing really good cheese. Based on Alabama’s Eastern Shore, she brings an editorial eye, a cheese lover’s palate, and a deep appreciation for comfort food to the judges’ table.
