Moapa Valley,
As tropical moisture from the incoming weather system tracks across Southern Nevada, the Moapa Valley Fire District is monitoring potential impacts to our area.
As we all know, desert weather can be unpredictable. While tropical systems usually dissipate before reaching us, they can also dump significant moisture in a short time frame across Moapa Valley. Even localized rainfall miles away can quickly create hazardous runoff in our local washes and low-lying roads.
What to keep in mind over the coming days:
- Flash Flooding & Wash Crossings: Never attempt to drive or walk through flooded roadways or active washes.
- Gusty Winds & Debris: Expect potential periods of elevated winds, which can cause blowing dust, localized power outages, or loose garden/yard debris. Secure outdoor furniture, canopies, and trash bins.
- Power Outages & Home Care: Clear drainage channels or gutters around your property today while weather conditions are clear, and check that flashlights and emergency kits are accessible.
Our crews are on standby and will be monitoring conditions around Overton, Logandale, and Moapa to ensure rapid response if needed. Please drive cautiously, and make sure to give emergency vehicles space.
Stay safe, Moapa Valley!
