Juneteenth (June 19) commemorates the day in 1865 when enslaved people from the African diaspora in Texas learned they were free. This was more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation had been issued. The day serves as a reminder that freedom, justice, and equality have often been delayed, but remain worth fighting for.
As we honor Juneteenth, Seekhaven reflects on the ongoing work of creating communities where everyone can live with safety, dignity, and self-determination. For survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, liberation means not only freedom from physical harm, it also means having access to resources, support, and healing.
