Unfortunately, the Earth Day accuracy competition and BBQ had to be canceled this year due to unrelenting wind, but that didn’t stop the cleanup from going ahead!
A huge thank you to the 18 people who still showed up and put in the work. Together we covered Kane Creek Canyon road and several popular exit areas, picking up all sorts of trash along the way. In total, 17 bags of trash were collected, along with some bigger items we weren’t exactly expecting to find out there, a mattress (still to be fully recovered... stand by...), a TV, and a chair.
These kinds of efforts really add up. Not only does having more people out there mean we can cover more ground and remove more waste, but the BLM also tracks volunteer turnout. Those numbers directly translate into funding and support for the field office.
So even a few hours of your time at events like this goes a long way, not just toward keeping the canyon cleaner, but toward supporting the long-term stewardship of the places we all recreate in.
Huge appreciation to everyone who came out and helped make it happen.
