Scouting Family,
Today we're sharing significant news about Scouting America. The U.S. Supreme Court has declined to consider remaining legal appeals to Scouting America’s Chapter 11 reorganization plan, bringing closure to a five-year legal process and positioning our organization for the future. This action means that our reorganization plan is now final and irrevocable, and the Settlement Trust established under Scouting America’s reorganization plan can now expedite the payment of compensation to survivors of historical abuse. This is an important moment of healing and closure that survivors have long deserved.
You may see this announcement in the news or in your communities. Here's what matters: Scouting America is financially stable and moving forward with legal certainty. The organization has navigated this complex process successfully, and we are well positioned for the future. This resolution removes uncertainty and allows us to redirect additional resources toward program innovation, expand our reach and serve more families.
This outcome culminates more than five years of dedicated collaboration among survivors, Scouting America, local councils, chartered organizations, settling insurance companies and other stakeholders, all united in a shared commitment to equitably compensate survivors and work to build a stronger, safer Scouting movement.
As families and community members reach out with questions about this announcement, you can share this news with confidence. Scouting America has implemented meaningful, comprehensive changes to further strengthen how we safeguard youth at every level of the organization. We are moving forward and energized about our mission — bringing the joy, growth and community that Scouting offers to more young people, with the highest standards of safety and care embedded in everything we do.
Thank you for your commitment to Scouting America's mission throughout this process and during this important moment.
Yours in Scouting,
Roger Krone
