**I don't know where I am.**
I don't know why I'm here.
And the worst part is, **I can't see well enough to figure it out.** 😭
I hear dogs barking. Metal doors slamming. People walking past me.
Sometimes I hear footsteps coming closer, and I don't know if they're coming for me.
Sometimes someone reaches out to touch me, and I get startled.
I'm sorry.
**I'm not trying to be difficult. I just didn't know you were there.** 💔
My eyes don't work like they used to. The humans think I might have glaucoma. If that's true, my eyes might be hurting me, too.
Imagine being somewhere unfamiliar, unable to see what's happening, possibly in pain, and not having a single person you recognize to tell you everything is going to be okay.
**That's what every day feels like for me.**
The shelter says I'm a nice boy.
I still walk confidently on a leash. I try really hard to be brave.
But sometimes I wish someone would just sit beside me and tell me I don't have to be brave anymore.
That I'm safe.
That nobody is going to hurt me.
That I'm finally home.
💔 **I MAY LOSE BOTH OF MY EYES.**
If I have glaucoma and my eyes can't be saved, the doctors may need to remove them so I won't hurt anymore.
I know that sounds scary.
But losing my eyesight isn't what frightens me most.
**What frightens me is the thought that nobody will want me afterward.**
That people will walk past my picture because my eyes look different.
That being six years old and nearly blind will make me too much trouble.
That I'll die in this shelter without ever knowing what it feels like to belong to someone.
And I don't understand why.
**Because I still know how to love.**
I can learn your voice.
I can memorize your footsteps.
I can recognize your smell when you walk through the door.
I can feel your hand gently resting on my head.
And when I finally trust you enough to fall asleep beside you, I won't need to see your face to know I'm home.
❤️ **I JUST NEED ONE PERSON.**
Someone patient enough to help me learn my way around.
Someone who will tell me they're there before touching me.
Someone who will love me on the days I'm frightened and celebrate the little victories with me.
Someone who won't give up on me because my world looks different from theirs.

They may even be able to get a grant to pay for my eye surgery if I need it.
But they can't save me with love alone.
They need an adopter.

🚨 ATHENA & APOLLO NEED A HOME TOGETHER—URGENTLY. 🚨
They came into the shelter together, were surrendered together, adopted together—and returned to the shelter together. They are deeply bonded and deserve a real chance at a successful life together.

We’re Athena ( ), 4, and Apollo ( ), 5—about 52-pound Alaskan Huskies who have been through too much upheaval. We were adopted together, but our adopter introduced us to resident family dogs too quickly. We didn’t instantly adjust, and we were returned to the shelter together.

Please don’t let one failed transition define our whole lives. We need someone willing to give us a real chance together—with patience, careful introductions, and time to settle in.

Our shelter playgroup assessments on October 13 were positive. Athena was tolerant and friendly with other dogs, though she preferred to create space instead of playing. Apollo greeted dogs softly and remained social and friendly. For both of us, the shelter recommends calm dogs. We’re medium energy, potty and crate trained, and know basic commands. Our former owner said we lived with a cat and were playful with children ages 3–13.

Our former owner also reported that during our week in their home, Athena barked, lunged, and tried to bite their resident husky when he walked by. We’re sharing this honestly so our next family can plan safe, slow introductions. Shelter behavior assessments are snapshots, and behavior can change in a home.

Apollo has red, raw areas on the inside of both ear tips from fly strike and needs follow-up care.

🚨 We need an adopter for both of us immediately—and pledges or donations to help fund our rescue. Transport can be arranged. No foster placement; we need a forever-home plan.
