We're honored to be the featured fundraiser at the Engel & Völkers Western Frontier First Friday event on Sept. 4. Stop by their office at 321 North Higgins Avenue between 5 and 8 p.m. to say hello, learn more about our work, and enjoy the magic of Downtown Missoula’s First Friday.

First Fridays are all about celebrating the heart and soul of our community – art, music, and connection. Stroll through historic Downtown, explore local galleries, enjoy live music, and discover specials at unique shops and restaurants.

Come for the art, stay for the community and help support our mission while you’re here!

We have a tiny problem at Homeword. 👀Someone has been printing tiny cutouts of our staff’s faces and secretly hiding them around our office.

We don’t know who’s behind this. We don’t know how many tiny cutouts are out there. And, frankly, we’re starting to question who we can trust.

Montana summers = solar power! 😎 At our properties all across the state, we are making the most of Montana’s long, sunny days. About half of our multifamily properties have solar arrays, generating clean, renewable energy for our communities. Much of that energy helps power common areas, lowering operating costs and helping us keep homes affordable for our residents. At our Junegrass property in Kalispell, the solar generates energy to preheat the residents' hot water, directly helping to lower their utility bills.

The Missoula County Wildfire Mitigation Program and the U.S. Forest Service will host a Pop-Up Wildfire-Prepared Homes Workshop for Missoula-area residents on Monday, Aug. 31.

The workshop will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Missoula County Elections Center, 140 N. Russell St. Staff from both agencies will be on hand to provide information and guide participants on what they need to do to protect their homes from wildfires. Participants can also schedule free risk assessments for their property at the workshop.

The event will include a presentation from wildfire experts on home preparedness and evacuation planning, followed by an interactive activity. Snacks and refreshments will be provided, and participants can enter a raffle for a chance to win prizes.

The Missoula County Wildfire Mitigation Program helps county residents with free wildfire risk assessments as well as community-wide wildfire planning.

More information about the program is available online: https://www.missoulacounty.gov/departments/office-of-emergency-management/preparing-for-wildfires/

Operations and Program Director Julie P. recently attended the NeighborWorks America National Training Institute in Miami Beach, Florida, completing the first course in a series toward earning her foreclosure counseling certification.

We want to be prepared to help homeowners navigate their options if they experience financial hardship. This training focused on the basics of the foreclosure process and the options homeowners may have when working with their mortgage servicer to find a solution or, when necessary, transition with dignity.

We’re grateful to Julie for continuing to build her expertise so Homeword can be there for Montana homeowners when they need us most.

There’s been quite a bit happening at Lenox this summer! The flooring replacement is complete, exterior handrails have been updated and work is underway on the historic deck restoration and elevator modernization, including a new operating panel and mechanical improvements.

We’re grateful to the many partners helping make these improvements possible. Freedom Solutions completed the flooring and handrail work and will also lead the historic deck restoration while assisting with portions of the elevator modernization. Moore Technology & Security installed the new video surveillance system, Talco Electrical Construction Inc completed the lighting upgrades and King Elevator is leading the elevator modernization.

Much of this work has been made possible through HOME funding from the City of Missoula, helping us continue to invest in safe, quality homes for our residents.

It's been a long while since we last participated, but Homeword is joining SponCon this year. We're teaming up with Encompass Design on Saturday, Sept. 12, for Missoula’s 22nd annual creative ReUse Build-A-Thon! Teams will have just seven hours to transform any reclaimed materials from the Home ReSource ReUse Store into incredible works of art or functional masterpieces.

Encompass's deluxe doghouse last year was incredible, and we plan to bring our A-game this year. What will we build? We don't know yet, but we're excited to get creative, put our reuse skills to the test and see what we can make together! 🛠️♻️

SponCon is a one-day design/build competition where community teams have seven hours to build something amazing using only reclaimed materials.

Help shape Missoula’s housing priorities by sharing your feedback!

Each year, the City of Missoula receives funding directly from the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) to support affordable housing and community development projects.

Please consider sharing your opinion in this six-question survey to help shape how federal funds are used in our community. This feedback will help the City understand what’s working in Missoula and where they can do better. Survey link: https://forms.cloud.microsoft/g/wdQ7ZGRyan
