Help Lead the Future of Wild Sheep in Montana

The Montana Wild Sheep Foundation is accepting nominations for Board of Directors positions.

Strong conservation organizations do not run on good intentions alone. They depend on people willing to show up, put in the work, ask good questions, help make decisions, and keep the mission moving forward.

MWSF’s board plays an important role in guiding the work we do for Montana’s wild sheep, from habitat and conservation projects to fundraising, advocacy, and long-term organizational planning.

If you or someone you know is a committed MWSF member with the time, interest, and drive to serve, now is the time to step forward.

Board nominations are open through July 1.

June is grocery season for bighorn sheep.

After a long (strange) Montana winter and a spring spent raising lambs, sheep are busy putting green forage to work. Summer range helps ewes rebuild body condition, gives lambs a stronger start, and supports the herd heading into the harder seasons ahead.

We had a weirdly mild winter this year, but all this rain, as miserable as it might be for the rest of us, is making those hillsides lush.

We might be ready for the drizzle to stop.
The sheep are probably loving the salad bar.

May was a big month for sheep.

We talked lambs, habitat, disease awareness, mineral licks, membership, license plates, and the simple but important reminder to give wild sheep room.

Bighorns don’t need much from most of us. They need good habitat, healthy herds, smart management, and people willing to keep showing up for the work.

Thanks for being a part of that, sharing posts, buying plates, sending photos, and keeping Montana’s wild sheep on your radar.

June’s coming. So is more sheep work.

This weekend, we remember the men and women who gave their lives in service to this country.

For many of us, Memorial Day also means time outside, time with family, and time in the places we’re lucky enough to call home. Those freedoms were paid for by people who never made it back to enjoy them.

From all of us at Montana Wild Sheep Foundation, we hope you have a safe Memorial Day weekend.

Take a minute to remember what this weekend is really for.

Need an easy way to support Montana’s wild sheep?

Put it on your rig.

Montana Wild Sheep Foundation specialty plates send money back to conservation work for wild sheep across the state. That means habitat work, disease prevention, transplants, research, and the steady, unglamorous work that actually keeps sheep on the mountain.

You’re already paying for plates.

Make them do something useful.

They don’t get flowers, brunch, or a single minute of peace, either.

They get steep country, hungry lambs, spring weather, and every predator on the mountain paying attention.

Bighorn lambs get most of the “aww” comments,
but the ewes are the reason they get a fighting chance.

Here’s to the mothers raising the next generation of wild sheep.

Happy Mother's Day.

Wild Sheep Wednesday reminder:
Lambing season is near, and in some parts of bighorn country, it’s already underway.

Lambs are born into a tough world, and their first few weeks are no time for extra pressure from people, dogs, bikes, vehicles, or anyone trying to sneak in for a better look.
