Staff highlight! Megan Josephs began her role as Birnbaum Youth Home Program Director in July 2026. She originally joined Youth Homes as a Youth Counselor at Talbot Boys Home in October 2025 after relocating from New York.

Megan has worked with youth since age 15, when she was a summer camp counselor. Before moving to Montana, Megan worked for the New York State Office of Mental Health as a Mental Health Therapy Aide. Megan holds a B.A. in English Education and is currently finishing her M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy with a specialization in Trauma-informed Systems. Although sheā€™s lived on both coasts and overseas, Megan is grateful to call Montana home and is excited to serve Missoula youth and families.

We had an exciting camping weekend with some of our younger kids! Highlights included:

šŸŒ² Wading in the river and exploring in the woods
šŸ¦ž Catching Montana lobsters in the pond
šŸ«§ Blowing bubbles and playing backwoods croquet
šŸ”„ Cooking fire-safe on a camp stove and eating s'mores cookies
ā›ŗļø Setting up tents and camping out in a tipi
ā›ˆļø Enduring rain, thunder, and lightning
šŸ˜“ Ending the night at home in dry clothes and a warm bed

The Great Fish Community Challenge is in full swing!

At the kickoff party, The Flathead Youth Homeā€™s amazing booth received $1,000 as one of three winners. Their theme was ā€œFlourish & Grow,ā€ reflecting their hope for every youth in their care.

They raised $10,000 in the first week aloneā€”and itā€™s not over yet.

Staff highlight! Julie Benson is the Development and Grant Coordinator at Youth Homes, where she supports development initiatives and writes grants that support youth and families across western Montana. With more than 25 years of experience, she is passionate about helping organizations tell their stories, build partnerships, and secure resources.

Before joining Youth Homes, Julie worked in higher education, government, nonprofit leadership, and consulting, specializing in communication, facilitation, and conflict resolution.
