Garden for Wildlife Missoula

Garden for Wildlife Missoula Here to help Missoula live up to its name as the Garden City! Join the National Wildlife Federation in creating sustainable habitat for wildlife🐦‍⬛🐞🐾

On March 9, 2015, Missoula Mayor John Engen proclaimed Missoula Wildlife Week and announced a partnership with the National Wildlife Federation to promote the creation and conservation of wildlife habitats throughout the Garden City. The goal is to recognize Missoula as Montana’s first certified Community Wildlife Habitat, promoting the use of native plants and landscaping to develop natural habit

ats that attract pollinators, songbirds and other desirable wildlife (NOT bears and deer), use little or no fertilizer and pesticides, and require modest watering. What you can do:
Create (and certify!) your wildlife garden, whether you have an apartment balcony or a suburban yard, a schoolyard or a business. Apply for a Neighborhood Grant to create a certified wildlife habitat with your neighbors. Check out NWF’s Certified Wildlife Habitat page for valuable information and opportunities to help wildlife at home and in our community. Contact the Missoula-based NWF Sustainability and Habitat Educator for information, or if you’d like to be part of the Missoula Wildlife Habitat Team. http://www.nwf.org/How-to-Help/Garden-for-Wildlife/Certify-Your-Wildlife-Garden.aspx

Hello Gardeners!
As spring—or perhaps another false spring—approaches, it's the perfect time to start planning your garden or yard. The best place to begin? From the ground up! Healthy soil is the foundation for a thriving garden, so now is the time to prepare and nurture it for the growing season ahead. Please consider joining Part 2 of the Soil Health Workshop Series on Thursday, April 3, 2025, in Missoula (flyer attached)! This interactive event will feature a Producer Panel discussing how to center ecological integrity in farming and ranching, followed by a Capstone Presentation from Dr. Tony Hartshorn (MSU-Bozeman) on soil literacy and fostering healthy agricultural lands.
📅 Date: Thursday, April 3, 2025
🕙 Time: 10:00 AM - 1:30 PM (with an optional ranch field trip from 1:30 - 3:30 PM)
📍 Location: Balsamroot Conference Room, G.W. Marks Exploration Center, 1075 South Ave W, Missoula
🍽 Free lunch provided!

This event is organized by Farm Connect, Five Valleys Land Trust, Missoula Conservation District, and Montana State University Extension. It’s a great opportunity to connect with fellow producers, learn from experts, and explore practical strategies for improving soil health. We hope to see you there!

Register by April 1st by emailing Jenny Tollefson at [email protected] or for more information visit https://su.vc/toolexpo25

The Clark Fork Coalition and the National Wildlife Federation are teaming up to host a workshop and volunteer day on Sunday, October 13th at Highlander Brewery, and we hope you'll consider joining us.
