In 'Kingdom of Fish,' Martin Falklind explores the possibilities of helping the fish to roam freely. Many fish need free-flowing water in order to reproduce. But in rivers and streams, they are often obstructed by hydroelectric dams and other obstacles that we humans have built. We also meet Sweden's first inhabitants after the ice age, the char, and 12-year-old Edvin, who does everything he can to help fish.
And in 'What the River Knows,' a lost Eden drowned under Lake Powell re-emerges, revealing the follies of the past and a new way forward for the Colorado River. This film explores this unique inflection point in a centuries-long history: at the same time that we are met with the need to redesign our systems of water management in the west, we are presented with the opportunity to restore one of the most stunning landscapes on the planet.
These two spectacular stories of protecting the world's rivers will be screening on Wednesday, April 22nd, at 7:30 pm.
