Today and every day we honor our Indigenous American community, their histories and culture. We are honored to share stories like "You are the Light" by Louis Still Smoking featured in our Paint the State Contest.

The mural is a depiction of the youth in their regalia. I wanted to show the youth and the connection to the land and culture. The mountain is "Chief Mountain" a symbol of pride amongst the Blackfeet people. It to has cultural significance to the Blackfeet as it is a place of worship and a great source for medicines and food. Just below is a graphic that represents Ancestors that are watching over the people. The sun and stars a present with the words "M**h Not Even Once".

My inspiration for the mural, is that people will look at the mural and feel a sense of pride and positivity. The goal is to bring positive visual reinforcement through the mural. Community engagement is vital to any mural and the viewers engagement with it should be a positive one. I hope to bring awareness to people in the community that we can live drug free and we can encourage the next generation to be drug free.

Jonn was generous, funny & witty, with a passion for ranching and horses. Jonn's struggle with drugs began after a broken jaw in an accident spurred an Opioid addiction, eventually leading him down a path to experiment with other substances and taking a pill that ended his life. Jonn had so much to offer the world but was not able to because of half a pill laced with Fentanyl.

No family should suffer the loss of a loved one. We are here to break the stigma of the term "overdose" - by sharing the lives and stories of those truly impacted by the deadly impact of drug use. Overdose implies a large amount of substance was ingested - rather it is vital to share that tragedy comes from very small doses - just 2MG of Fentanyl can kill.

A dangerous synthetic opioid called Cychlorphine is showing up in the illicit drug supply. It has been found in counterfeit pills and other illicit drugs, including co***ne, and may be up to 10× more potent than Fentanyl. Standard Fentanyl test strips won't detect Cychlorphine.

DON'T TAKE A CHANCE WITH YOUR LIFE. Never take a pill that wasn't prescribed to you and dispensed by a licensed pharmacy.

The students in Mrs. O'Neal's 7th and 8th grade health class had just finished a unit on the risks of drug use when they decided to enter our 2024 contest.

One of the topics they discussed was finding lifelong activities that one enjoys so that it is less tempting to resort to drug use when a person is bored or struggling. Many of the students like to get outside and enjoy nature in some form or another and Montana is the perfect place to do just that.

There is so much beauty we are grateful for in our State, and that includes our inspiring community of teachers and students who continue to work toward a Drug-Free future.

Tyler Benjamin was just like every one of us - he had a large friend group of friends and played sports his entire life. When he started experimenting with drugs his senior year of high school, he stopped playing sports completely. Tyler died from half a pill of Fentanyl. His family has allowed us to share his story in the hopes that we will learn to have the hard conversations with each other about WHY experimentation starts in the first place, and that Fentanyl is at an all time high being hard to spot.

Prevent tragedy by learning from Tyler - experimentation with drugs is not worth it.
