Skiers and riders! It's time for our annual film festival, this year in partnership with Arc'Teryx, that pays for plowing to popular winter trailheads, advocating for human-powered recreation on public lands, and public access in general. Plus our famous RAFFLE with full ski kits from Arc'Teryx, backcountry gear, yurt stays, and more sweet prizes, as per usual. And this year - better films! We promise.

Join us in BOZEMAN pm Thursday, January 15 at the Emerson.

Missoula Gives runs May 1-May 2. Please make a contribution to help support our work plowing roads to trailheads (like Gash & Wisherd), improving skiing on Marshall, and ensuring the Lolo N.F. protects our favorite backcountry spots during forest planning.

I’m ready to support Montana Backcountry Alliance on May 1, 2025 during Missoula Gives. Learn more about Montana Backcountry Alliance and all the other organizations participating in Missoula Gives.

Heads up! USFS avalanche forecasting centers at risk! ACTION
Last week U.S. Forest Service Chief Moore announced that the agency will not be hiring any seasonal employees in FY25, which starts October 1st. Furthermore, permanent seasonals will not be permitted to work beyond their tour of duty (either 18 or 13 weeks). This hiring freeze will have a significant and immediate impact on winter recreation, including avalanche forecasting.
Sign this letter to urge the USFS to exempt forecasting!

Folks,
The Lolo National Forest Plan Revision process is moving
forward.

There is a webinar tonight where officials will discuss recreation on the forest as it relates to the planning process. Learn more about how the forest balances recreation, how it uses the Recreation Opportunity Spectrum and more.
The webinar is from 6-7. Access it via the link below.

Also, the comment period for the draft Wilderness and Wild and Scenic Rivers inventory portion of the planning process is open until May 16. Add your comment today (via link below).

MBA is engaged in this process and we recently met the planning lead and a recreational specialist from the forest to discuss our priorities and how we can best participate in the planning process.

Bozeman and SW MT area skiers and riders: Please help give bighorn sheep some space in the Deer Creek/Asbestos Creek area near Big Sky. As the poster says, there's plenty of room in the Spanish Peaks for skiers and riders to shred without impacting struggling bighorn sheep herds.

Also, HUGE THANKS to all the Bozeman folks who made it out to the Backcountry Film Fest at the Elm back in February and to Split Fest this past weekend! We had a blast and can't wait to catch up with you all again next year.

Ride safely out there!
