As we look back on our most recent festival, we are filled with deep gratitude for the immense hard work, commitment and aloha shared by everyone who made it possible—our performers, kumu, volunteers and the many hands and hearts behind the scenes. This gathering exists because of a collective effort, and we acknowledge the community that has sustained it over the years.
We also owe profound acknowledgement to Lehua and Kumu Ula for their wisdom, guidance and unwavering support. From Lehua’s encouragement of Kumu ʻAulani to initiate the first-ever kūpuna hula festival in Southern California, to Kumu Ula’s years of emceeing the event and leading cultural workshops, their leadership has shaped the spirit and integrity of Hula Hiehie O Nā Kūpuna. We are deeply grateful for their ʻike and generosity.
Mahalo nui loa to all the kumu who have been part of Hula Hiehie O Nā Kūpuna over the past nine years, especially those who have been with us from the very beginning. This gathering was created to honor our kūpuna by celebrating their experiences, knowledge, and lifelong dedication to hula.
With deep respect and care, we will be pausing Hula Hiehie O Nā Kūpuna in 2026 to reflect, re-group and hold space for what comes next. We are forever grateful for the aloha, wisdom and sense of community shared throughout this wonderful journey...and as we move forward with care we will share the next chapter when the time is right. To stay connected during this transition—and to revisit memories from years past—we invite you to visit our website www.hulahiehie.com. A hui hou!
