As we look back on our most recent festival, we are filled with deep gratitude for the immense hard work, commitment and aloha shared by everyone who made it possible—our performers, kumu, volunteers and the many hands and hearts behind the scenes. This gathering exists because of a collective effort, and we acknowledge the community that has sustained it over the years.

We also owe profound acknowledgement to Lehua and Kumu Ula for their wisdom, guidance and unwavering support. From Lehua’s encouragement of Kumu ʻAulani to initiate the first-ever kūpuna hula festival in Southern California, to Kumu Ula’s years of emceeing the event and leading cultural workshops, their leadership has shaped the spirit and integrity of Hula Hiehie O Nā Kūpuna. We are deeply grateful for their ʻike and generosity.

Mahalo nui loa to all the kumu who have been part of Hula Hiehie O Nā Kūpuna over the past nine years, especially those who have been with us from the very beginning. This gathering was created to honor our kūpuna by celebrating their experiences, knowledge, and lifelong dedication to hula.

With deep respect and care, we will be pausing Hula Hiehie O Nā Kūpuna in 2026 to reflect, re-group and hold space for what comes next. We are forever grateful for the aloha, wisdom and sense of community shared throughout this wonderful journey...and as we move forward with care we will share the next chapter when the time is right. To stay connected during this transition—and to revisit memories from years past—we invite you to visit our website www.hulahiehie.com. A hui hou!

2 days of Cultural Workshops @ Hula Hiehie O Nā Kūpuna Festival? Say Less!

Whether you’re able to attend one day or both, don’t miss this rare opportunity to learn from Kumu Ula Hewett, a renowned kumu hula rooted in one of hula’s most cherished lineages.

Kumu Ula began dancing in childhood under the guidance of revered mentors—including her father Lehua Kawaikapuokalani Hewett, Mapuana Ringler, Aloha Dalire, and Kapua Dalire. A former Miss Aloha Hula soloist and Merrie Monarch performer in both kahiko and ʻauana, she now teaches hālau in Japan and California, and shares her artistry through music as a recording artist featured on multiple albums. 🌺🎶

🎶 Friday, Sept 26 – ʻAuana Day - Learn how to play a mele (song) on the ‘ukulele and then learn the hula for it!

☀️ Sunday, Sept 28 – Kahiko Day - Learn oli (chant) & pa’i to a mele (song) and the hula for it

There’s still time to register — link in bio!

More than halfway through 2025 and it’s already been such an eventful year — full of moments that remind us life is always moving, changing, and teaching us. 🌊
Our kūpuna know this well. They’ve lived through life’s highs, lows, and everything in between — and their wisdom is a gift we can all learn from.

Join us at the 9th Annual Hula Hiehie O Nā Kūpuna Festival, as we gather to honor them with 2 days of cultural workshops and a free public showcase on Saturday, Sept 27.

Hula groups from across California will take the stage, filling the air with music, movement, and memories that last a lifetime. 🌺
This year’s theme: Ho’ohāliʻaliʻa Aloha – to fondly recall loving and cherished memories. Come reminisce… and make new memories with us. 🌊✨
