This week we welcomed Daphne Fletcher, past President of the Encinitas Rotary Club and Founder of the Publishing Foundation. Daphne gave an interesting talk of her important work her club did in raising funds for Ukrainian refugees. She then discussed how her company, Ledge Media, is behind the production of future Rotary yellow pages. These yellow pages will be an enormously important resource as it will compile a substantial amount of useful information on Rotary members around the country detailing the businesses managed or owned by its members. Through this tool we will build stronger connections.

Today, we welcomed Dr. Richard Godfrey, MD, who is a distinguished member of the Niles Rotary Club in Fremont, CA. Dr. Godfrey presented his project in Bolivia and several other countries that is intended to help eradicate cervical cancer in women. His work that includes a more specific screening technology is supported by Rotary and now reaches thousands of women who would otherwise go without this medical support. Savings lives means service above self.

This past Saturday afternoon, the Rotary Club of Mission Viejo held its October social event. This highly attended event brought together members, their families, and other guests interested in learning more about what we do. A guided w**e tasting was complimented by some wonderful food. Guests also participated in a raffle auction with the chance of winning sumptuous gift baskets and other prizes. What fun! All proceeds earned that evening went into our Rotary Fund that goes to help our community. These prizes as well as all other elements of the evening were donated by club members. Thank you to our hosts and all who attended. Service Above Self.

We often receive questions about our meetings - what are they like? Attaching some photos from our meeting this morning to provide a little insight. Jay Minor, Club President, presented Rotary’s seven main focus areas. Millard Roth, former Club President, led the group of 25 attending members and guests in a fun song about love. Dave Hannah shared information about the Rotary Lombardi Award. Jim Hansen, member, presented his story of “my why”, his personal journey with Rotary. Nels Struve received his Paul Harris Award by reaching a donation threshold to the Rotary Foundation (incidentally, most MV Rotary Club members have achieved this same award). We are a dynamic club with fun and highly engaging meetings. Service Above Self.

Rotary Mission Viejo was part of the “Tuesday on the Terrace” event yesterday at the Norman Murray Center. This monthly event attracts lots of people who want to hear great music, dance, and have fun. The event allows our club an opportunity to speak to people about Rotary and also raise funds that support all of our great projects throughout the year.

Today our club welcomed Monica Peters, Governor for Rotary District 5320. Monica gave our club a wonderful overview of her vision and goals for the district but also touched upon the vision of Rotary International Global President, Olayinka Hakeem Babalola. What a fantastic opportunity to understand how all members of Rotary are part of a larger world effort to do more and contribute more to helping others.
