PEACE IS MORE THAN THE ABSENCE OF CONFLICT

"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God." — Matthew 5:9

Most people respond to conflict by either attacking or avoiding. Jesus offers a better way.

Peacemakers don't pretend problems don't exist. They step into difficult conversations with humility, truth, and love. They build bridges where others build walls. They pursue reconciliation because God first reconciled us to Himself through Christ.

Peace is not weakness.
Peace is not compromise.
Peace is not avoidance.

Peace is courageous love in action.

This week in our UNITE series, we'll discover what it means to reflect the heart of God by becoming peacemakers in a divided world.

The world is full of division, but the gospel is God's answer.

"Everything is from God, who has reconciled us to himself through Christ and has given us the ministry of reconciliation." — 2 Corinthians 5:18

God didn't just save us from sin. He restored our relationship with Him and entrusted us with the mission of helping others experience that same reconciliation.

As followers of Jesus, we are called to be bridge builders, not wall builders.

✔️ Forgive when it's difficult.
✔️ Extend grace when it's undeserved.
✔️ Represent Christ wherever you go.
✔️ Share the message of reconciliation with those around you.

The Church shines brightest when reconciled people become reconciling people.

Reconciled people become reconciling people.

Forgiven people forgive.

Peter asked Jesus, “How many times should I forgive someone who sins against me? Seven times?” Jesus answered, “Not seven times, but seventy-seven times.” (Matthew 18:21-22)

Why? Because forgiveness isn't about keeping score—it's about remembering the grace we've received.

The truth is, relationships begin to fracture when we forget how much we've been forgiven by God. When we lose sight of the cross, other people's offenses seem bigger than God's mercy.

Forgiveness doesn't excuse wrong. It doesn't ignore hurt. It doesn't mean there are no boundaries. Forgiveness means releasing our right to revenge and trusting God with justice.

The cross reminds us that we were forgiven an unpayable debt. As recipients of such incredible grace, we're called to extend that same grace to others.

Who do you need to forgive today?

Strong convictions aren’t the problem…
loveless ones are.

“Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.” — 1 Corinthians 8:1

You can be right and still be wrong in how you treat people.

Mature faith doesn’t just ask:
👉 What am I free to do?

It asks:
👉 What builds others up?

Sometimes love means:
• Listening instead of arguing
• Slowing down for someone else’s journey
• Even limiting your freedom for their growth

Truth matters.
But how you carry it matters just as much.

Strong convictions.
Stronger love.

Unity doesn’t mean we all think the same.

In Romans 14, Paul reminds us that not every disagreement is a division.

Some things are essential:
Truth. The Gospel. Jesus.

But many things we argue about?
Preferences. Traditions. Personal convictions.

And when we elevate preferences to the level of truth, we create unnecessary division.

Maturity in Christ looks like this:
Holding firmly to truth…
While extending grace in the gray areas.

Before you judge—pause.
Before you argue—listen.
Before you divide—remember:

God has welcomed them…so should we.

The Church shines brightest not when we agree on everything,
but when we love each other through anything.

Grace or truth?
Most of us feel like we have to choose.

But Jesus didn’t.

“The Word became flesh… full of grace and truth.” — John 1:14

On this Mother’s Day, we celebrate the women who live in that tension every day:

💛 Speaking truth when it’s hard
💛 Giving grace when it’s undeserved
💛 Loving in a way that reflects Jesus

Because grace without truth leaves us stuck…
And truth without grace leaves us crushed.

But in Jesus—we are both loved and changed.

To every mom, spiritual mom, and woman who invests in others:
You are reflecting the heart of Christ more than you know.

Truth is easy to weaponize.
Love is easy to water down.

But Jesus never chose one over the other.

“Speaking the truth in love…” — Ephesians 4:15

Truth without love wounds.
Love without truth drifts.

One becomes harsh.
The other becomes hollow.

But when truth and love come together—
that’s where growth happens.
That’s where unity deepens.
That’s where people actually change.

Before your next conversation, ask yourself:
Am I just trying to be right…
or am I trying to build someone up?

You don’t have to tear someone else down to feel lifted up.

In The Gospel of Luke 18:9–14, Jesus tells a story of two men praying—one impressive, one broken.

The religious man lists his goodness.
The sinner asks for mercy.

And Jesus says…
the one who asked for mercy went home right with God.

Why?
Because self-righteousness divides—but mercy unites.

When we compare, we create distance.
When we confess, God creates connection.

The ground at the foot of the cross is level.
No one stands above. No one is beyond.

So today—
Drop the comparison.
Lay down the pride.
And receive the mercy you were never meant to earn.

Because in God’s Kingdom…
the least are lifted.

Humility isn’t weakness—it’s strength under control.

In a world that pushes self-promotion, God invites us into a better way:
“Clothe yourselves with humility… humble yourselves under God’s mighty hand.” (1 Peter 5:5–6)

Pride says, “I’ve got this.”
Humility says, “God, I trust You.”

And here’s the promise:
When you release control, God releases grace.
When you humble yourself, He lifts you—at the right time.

Maybe today isn’t about pushing harder…
Maybe it’s about surrendering deeper.

What do you need to place in His hands today?

04/12/2026

Most division doesn’t start with big issues… it starts with small pride.

“I deserve.”
“They should.”
“I know better.”

And before long, walls go up.

But James reminds us:
“God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” (James 4:6)

If we want unity—at home, in the church, in our relationships—
it won’t come by winning arguments…

It comes by choosing humility.

This week, don’t try to fix everyone else.
Take the lower place.
Listen first.
Own your part.

Because…

Pride builds walls.
Humility builds bridges.
And grace flows to the low places.
