In honor of Flag Day today, I’m posting a few pictures from yesterday’s flag retirement at Mt. Laguna. It was incredibly moving and an honor for our scouts to honor the Star Spangled Banner one last time. More pictures to come from this camp out soon. 🫡 🇺🇸

The start of the summer season always begins with the Swimming Merit Badge and annual scout swim test. This hours long intense safety and swim training kicks off water safety to keep everyone safe. While this Eagle Required merit badge is rigorous, the challenging part for most scouts is learning how to dive. We had quite a few belly flops! Scouts who have previously finished the Swimming MB, only had to re-take the annual swim check. Scouts that pass the swim check can now participate in our troop pool meetings, enjoy water activities at Lake Mission Viejo, and go swimming at summer camp!

To honor those brave service men and women our scouts helped place American flags on the graves at the LA National Cemetery this weekend for Memorial Day.

What do you get when you combine scouts, a rattlesnake encounter, glow-in-the-dark scorpions, a ghost town, old mines, strong wind to fly kites in, a train ride, and good eats? Why, a camping trip with Troop 321 to Calico of course! Our scouts really enjoyed exploring around the dusty grounds of this old silver mining town. They toured mines, rode the train, bought souveniers, and had a great time. Outside of the ghost town, our FCE scouts went on a hike, and all scouts met with their leaders to check on their scouting progress.

The Red Diamond rattlesnake was found in camp by 2 of our scouts who were exploring the area. One scout stayed behind to observe the snake at a safe distance while his buddy ran to get an adult. Luckily this hefty snake slithered out of camp with a helpful scoot from our shovel and nobody was harmed. Way to go scouts!

Our garage sale is back on!!! Saturday, May 30th in Mission Viejo! Right off of Alicia and Muirlands. Support our local scouts and find some cool stuff! Every penny goes towards scouts for camping trips, new gear (like tents and cooking stoves) and merit badge patches! Spread the word.

Saddleback District Camporee is always fun with the scout skills competition and games. The best part is meeting up with all the other troops! Though we didn't quite manage to dodge the rain, at least it didn't pour the whole time like last year. But a scout is always prepared and these guys really made sure their camp was ready. A well lashed gateway, plenty of awnings and tents lined up together made for a smoother weekend.

A very special ceremony was held for Drew this Saturday. He was formally presented the highest rank in scouting: The rank of Eagle Scout at his Eagle Court of Honor. What an amazing journey Drew has taken not only in scouting, but in Cub Scout during his younger years as well. Our troop was beyond proud to honor Drew. Congratulations!

At our troop meetings, there is often a skill taught before we break out for merit badges, or a troop game. Last night our scouts got an American Flag refresher course! Our Scoutmaster did an excellent keeping scouts engaged while explaining the proper care and handling of our Star Spangled Banner.
