It’s that time of year again! We are officially gearing up for our 16th Annual Event on March 28th, and we are so proud to continue keeping 100% of our funds right here in Manitowoc County.

We are currently seeking donations and would love to partner with our amazing local businesses again! To make this a win-win, we encourage sponsors to donate items or gift cards that will bring our guests back to visit your business!

A little about our volunteer group—made up of family and friends of the late Loree Kakuk who lost her battle along with many other of our loved ones. Our group believes deeply in helping individuals in the Manitowoc area fight their battles against cancer. All funds stay in Manitowoc County, with a percentage donated to Pink Heals and the remainder of funds donated directly to individuals battling cancer, in addition to two scholarships for high school seniors.

2026 Scholarship Application – (2) $1,000 Scholarships

The Loree Kakuk Memorial Fund was established after our Mother/Aunt/Sister, Loree Kakuk, lost her battle to breast cancer. In memoriam of our loved ones, our team, made up of family and friends, created this fund to help those directly and indirectly affected by this devastating disease. This year we will be issuing two, one-time scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each, one in remembrance of Christine Johnson and one in remembrance of Loree Kakuk. Checks will be issued to the individual and the college/university.
CRITERIA: Must be a current Manitowoc County resident, must be a high school senior, must be attending a two- or four-year college/university, and your life must have been somehow affected by cancer.

HOW TO APPLY: Please submit answers to the typed link below.
1. List all meaningful extracurricular activities you have been involved in – sports teams, band, clubs, etc.
2. Complete ONE of the following in paragraph form:
a. What does it mean to be a leader?
i. Please incorporate your leadership experiences and the lessons gained from leading in your answer.
b. Why is engaging in volunteer work significant?
i. Please share any pertinent volunteer involvements you've had, and the insights gained from those experiences.
3. Describe the experiences that have contributed to your motivation to choose your major of interest.
4. How has cancer, whether through personal battles or witnessing its impact on loved ones, shaped your life?
a. Please share insights into the profound changes it has brought and the lessons you've gleaned from navigating this experience.
5. In two to three sentences, why should we choose you for our scholarship?

All applications must be submitted via Google Form (https://forms.gle/HH6LNwv7mED9u11r8) by 11:59pm CST on Saturday, April 11, 2026, to be considered.
The Loree Kakuk Memorial Fund acquires its funds, primarily, from its annual “Shoot for a Cure” event. Our annual event is Saturday, March 28th at Westshore Sportsman’s Club and we invite anyone to attend.
Both scholarship recipients will be notified via email or phone call.
