#6 of 2018!

After I read Room, I told myself that I would never read a book from the perspective of a child again. Its too much! I'm not even sure why I decided to, but I was drawn to this story line nontheless. Its hard enough to face the harsh realities in this world, but then when you experience it through the eyes of a child, its much more intense.

This little guy explores the emotions of a school shooting at his elementary school and the effect it has on those around him. His older brother was fatally shot and throughout the pain and suffering, he is the saving grace and voice of reason for so many!

For her first novel, not too bad! I gave it 4 stars. There were parts I felt could have been left out or that lacked purpose. But, as an author portraying a child's voice, it takes a little more to get your point across. It was timely and unfortunately relevant. One careless act can have horrible effects for so many, including the shooter's family.

On to the next...

#5 of 2018!!!

Book friends...I absolutely LOVED this beautiful story! I loved the characters, the writing, and the history woven throughout. Some of my favorite books are historical fiction. I find it fascinating to learn about past events that aren't often discussed. I had no idea that the Tennessee Children's Home Society existed. I am still trying to process how this went on for so long without anyone realizing. After I finished, I immediately did some research of my own to learn more about it! I highly, highly recommend!!!

It was released in 2017 and has already been published in 14 different languages. Can someone puhhh-lease put it in film production?!!

***Book #4 of 2018***

It's hard to recommend a great book without giving too much away! I thoroughly enjoyed this authors depiction of racial injustice, but from the aspect of the family. When someone is sentenced to prison, it has such long term consequences for so many. This story line provides a deeper understanding of marriage and loyalty. The side details and characters kept me turning the page!

The ending isnt what you're cheering for during the 300 pages, but its called An American Marriage for a reason. Its timely and accurate!
