📣 Don't Forget! Our 5th Annual Shred Day is TOMORROW! 📣

Protect your identity, clear out old paperwork, and help homeless animals—all in one stop!

Join us on Saturday, June 20, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Humane Society of St. Joseph County for secure on-site document shredding provided by Integra Certified Document and Data Destruction Services.

🐾 $20 suggested donation per vehicle
📦 Limit 5 medium-sized boxes
🔒 Secure on-site shredding
❤️ All proceeds benefit shelter animals in our care

The Humane Society of St. Joseph County will be closed today, Friday, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth.

If you have an Animal Control emergency, please call 574-255-4726 ext. 8.

While our shelter and adoption center will be closed, you can still view all of our adoptable animals online at: https://humanesocietystjc.org/adopt/

Interested in meeting a pet? Adoption applications can be submitted online at any time and will be reviewed when we reopen.

🐾 4th of July Pet Safety Tip #1: Check Your Pet's Microchip! 🐾

As we get closer to the Fourth of July holiday weekend, now is a great time to make sure your pet's microchip registration is up to date.

Summer storms, open doors, damaged fences, and fireworks can all lead to lost pets. A microchip can help bring them home, but only if the contact information is current.

✅ Verify your phone number and address
✅ Add an emergency contact
✅ Make sure your pet is wearing ID tags (we sell them for $5.50+ tax!)

Today we're giving a special Thankful Thursday shoutout to Zae!

Last weekend at Paws at the Hall, Zae set up a cookie booth and shared his passion for baking with the community. Not only did he sell delicious homemade cookies, but he also donated a portion of his profits to help support the animals in our care.

As if that wasn't sweet enough, he also donated his leftover cookies so our staff and volunteers could enjoy a special treat!

We are incredibly inspired by Zae's generosity and grateful for young people like him who are making a difference in our community. Thank you, Zae, for thinking of shelter pets and showing that kindness can come in all ages... and sometimes in the form of a really good cookie! 🍪🐶🐱

🐾 Adoptable Puppy Alert! 🐾

Andy is almost 8 weeks old and will be ready for his forever home in just a few days! ❤️

This adorable little guy is currently thriving in foster care, but his foster family will soon be leaving for vacation, so we're hoping to find Andy a loving home this weekend!

His foster mom says:
🐶 Very active and playful
🐶 Knows how to sit
🐶 Working on "down" and fetch
🐶 Mostly crate trained
🐶 Almost fully potty pad trained
🐶 Loves to cuddle when he's sleepy
🐶 Gives the cutest little nose boops! 🥰

🐾Wish List Wednesday 🐾

With more than 320 animals currently in our care, community support makes a huge difference. Today, our 8-year-old calico spokescat Calypso is sharing our most-needed items:

• Adult Dry Cat Food (Purina brand)
• Canned Dog Food
• Canned Cat Food
• Tide Pods

Donations can be dropped off in our lobby from 8:30 AM–5:30 PM, Monday through Saturday, or placed in the donation bins outside our front entrance at any time.

If you're unable to donate, please consider sharing this post. Every share helps us reach more animal lovers and ensures pets like Calypso receive the care they need while they wait for their forever homes.

We had so much fun last Saturday at Paws at the Hall hosted by Electrical Workers Local 153!

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to meet our dogs, shower them with love, and support the animals in our care through donations of money, treats, and toys. Your generosity makes a real difference for the animals who depend on us each day.

Our pups also had a blast participating in a summer-themed photo shoot, and the pictures couldn't have been more fitting for our Road Trip Ready adoption special. Throughout June, all dogs and cats older than 6 months are just $25 to adopt, making it the perfect time to add a new co-pilot to your summer adventures.

Events like this remind us how fortunate we are to be part of such a caring and compassionate community. Thank you for supporting our mission and helping animals in need find brighter futures!

🐾 Happy Tails Tuesday 🐾

This week, we're celebrating Jack Frost, now known as Teddy Jack!

Teddy Jack came to us in October as a shy 6-month-old stray kitten. While he enjoyed spending time with the other cats in our adoption center, he took a little longer to build confidence around people. As one of our longest feline residents at the time of his adoption, we knew the right home would be worth the wait.

Teddy Jack needed a feline friend to help him thrive, and he found the perfect match with Victoria and her resident cat.

Victoria recently shared this adorable photo and update:

"Jack was the shy boy at the shelter but is slowly warming up to his new home! He loves to talk and roll around. He is still hesitant of his new sister who is very sassy but curious and just wants to meet him!"

Thank you, Victoria, for taking a chance on one of our shy cats and giving him the loving home he deserves. Stories like Teddy Jack's remind us that sometimes the pets who take a little extra time to open up make the most rewarding companions. ❤️

UPDATE: Toby has been found and is now safe at the Humane Society of Elkhart County.

Thank you to everyone who shared our post, kept an eye out, and helped spread the word. Your support played an important role in helping Toby be located and brought to safety.

🚨 LOST DOG – PLEASE SHARE 🚨

Toby, a 7-year-old neutered male Dachshund mix, is currently missing after accidentally slipping out of his harness. Toby is a Humane Society alumni and will have a microchip.

📍 Last Seen:
27000 block of Woodview Drive, Elkhart, Indiana
Near CR 19 (Nappanee Street), north of US 20 and south of Charlotte Avenue.

Toby may be scared and unfamiliar with the area. If you see him, please do not chase him, as frightened dogs can run further away. Instead, try to keep him in sight and contact his owner immediately.
