Global Partners in Care Global Partners in Care connects people, ideas, and organizations to foster collaboration and catalyze innovation in palliative care worldwide.

Everyone facing serious illness deserves the comfort we would want for our own loved ones, no matter where they live. Palliative care is specialized care that brings comfort, dignity, and quality of life to people with serious illness and their families, at any stage and alongside other treatment. Yet more than 80% of people who need palliative care worldwide can't get it. Global Partners in Care (GPIC) is working to change that through partnerships and collaboration. For 25 years, we've connected organizations around the world so they can learn from one another, share ideas, and reach more people with compassionate care. We believe we're stronger together. Follow along for stories from our partners, ways to get involved, and news from the global palliative care community. Collaborating to Advance Palliative Care.

“If I don’t do it, who will?” 💜

That’s Dr. Babe Gaolebale of Princess Marina Hospital in Botswana. She and two nurses reach palliative care patients across the whole country by phone and WhatsApp.

Earlier this month in Montreal, teams from Botswana and Ghana joined a COMPASS workshop. They learned from palliative care leaders in Rwanda, Indonesia, Chile, Uruguay and Jamaica, and they left with clear plans.

GPIC is honored to support COMPASS, which connects country teams with mentors across all six WHO regions so good ideas can travel in every direction. 🌍

At Global Partners in Care (GPIC), we believe everyone facing serious illness deserves compassionate, high-quality care, no matter where they live. To get there, we connect people, ideas, and organizations across the world through three programs:

Connect creates accessible entry points for global engagement, bringing people and organizations together to learn, build relationships, and explore equitable collaboration in palliative care.

Partner is the relationship-centered core of the GPIC model, supporting deeper, mutually rewarding and more sustained collaboration over time.

Innovate creates space for new ideas and projects to emerge, bringing together people and ideas from across the GPIC community to collaborate, develop, and implement initiatives aimed at improving equitable access to palliative care around the world.

Who is the GPIC community? 🌍

Everyone. 💙

It's a global communityof organizations, partners, supporters, practitioners, educators, researchers, advocates, and learners, all working to advance palliative care through connection, collaboration, and knowledge exchange.

There’s no membership to join and no experience required. Wherever you are starting from, you’re welcome here.

Some of us care for patients and families. Some teach, research, or advocate. Some give, share, or are here to learn. Every way of taking part matters, and together we make this work possible.

Thank you for being part of our community. 💙

What has Global Partners in Care been up to for the last year? 🤔

Here's a (very) sped-up look behind the scenes! 🎬

Our team spent the year using Human-Centered Design to plan GPIC's next chapter: listening, brainstorming, rearranging, and going through more sticky notes than we'd like to admit. Out of it came a renewed strategy and a new mission:

💙 Global Partners in Care connects people, ideas, and organizations to foster collaboration and catalyze innovation in palliative care worldwide.

Palliative care is care for people living with serious illness. It focuses on comfort, dignity, and quality of life, and it's provided alongside treatment. Yet most people around the world who need it can't get it.

For 25 years, we've believed that everyone deserves the comfort we'd want for our own loved ones, no matter where they live. Our new mission is how we'll keep bringing people together to make that happen.

We're stronger together. Come see what's next and how you can engage 👉 https://globalpartnersincare.org

What happens when 192 palliative care leaders from 55 countries come together, not just to talk but to build? 🌍

Today we're sharing the report from our Collaborating for Global Impact initiative, the story of our 18-month partnership with Elea Institute.

One of our favorite moments: in Latin America, 48 creative campaigns entered our pilot communication award. The winner was Descoisando, a theater group whose show explores what patients go through, seen through the eyes of a palliative care clown. More than 180 people came to the performance and stayed for a community conversation about suffering, dignity, and death. 🎭💛

That spark is spreading. Asia-Pacific has launched a songwriting competition, and in Uganda, children in school palliative care clubs are making their own magazine, Voices of Compassion.

A special thank you to Elea Institute, whose partnership catalyzed this work, and everyone who continued to build it with us. 💙

Stay tuned, because something new is coming from GPIC soon.

No one should be left to endure avoidable pain. 💙

This World Hospice and Palliative Care Day, the global theme is “Pain Management: An Essential Part of Palliative Care.” But as need grows and major funders step away, more patients and families are left without the basic medicines that relieve pain. The impact is greatest in low- and middle-income countries, and the gap reaches everywhere, including the United States.

There is a better path. In Uganda, years of locally led partnership, including specially trained nurses who can prescribe oral morphine, have carried pain relief into rural communities.

Relief from avoidable pain is a human right. For more than 25 years, Global Partners in Care has seen that when partners invest in each other for the long term, care reaches people who would otherwise go without.

See what is possible when we work together 👉 https://globalpartnersincare.org/2026/10/09/investing-in-dignity-and-quality-of-life-what-is-possible-when-we-work-together/

Stay tuned. We have more to share soon.

"More than 21 million children around the world need palliative care, but many can't get it. On October 9, Global Partners in Care is joining ICPCN - International Children's Palliative Care Network's campaign to help close the gap.

The hat is a symbol of solidarity with the parents, siblings, nurses, and doctors who wear many ""hats"" while caring for a child with a serious illness.
