It's quiet right now at camp after a wet and chilly weekend. The First Unitarian Universalists of Newton have been coming to Sandy Island on Memorial Day Weekend since 1990. Longtime Sandy Island Week 9 campers Bob and Peggy Ellertson as well as Sandy Island Week 8 Campers! campers Karen Lein and Gary Oro are part of this wonderful group. Despite the wet and cold the group enjoyed their time together!

As I walk around camp and work towards getting her ready for the summer camping season, I feel honored and privileged to be the current steward of Sandy Island.

🌊 Lake Level Update: May 6, 2026

As of May 6th, Lake Winnipesaukee is sitting about 3.4 inches above full lake level (504.32 ft) and continuing to rise following recent precipitation. Current conditions reflect a sustained increase in water levels across the watershed.

🌧️ Precipitation Update (Lakeport, NH):
The region has received approximately 4 inches of precipitation since early April, tracking close to seasonal averages. Even with near-normal precipitation totals overall, recent rainfall events combined with seasonal runoff have contributed to elevated lake levels and increased flow throughout the watershed.

What This Means:
NHDES continues to manage lake levels at Lakeport Dam to balance recreation, protect shoreline infrastructure, and maintain downstream flows. Outflows may fluctuate as conditions change.

⚠️ Boater Awareness: Help Protect Our Shorelines
With higher water levels, shorelines and docks are especially vulnerable to erosion and damage. Please be mindful of your wake, even small boats can cause significant impacts in high water conditions.
