Getting into college is one thing. Finishing is another.

For all TSIC Broward students in 2025-2026, we had a 91% average college retention rate and a 91% completion rate. The state average for students living in poverty is 27%.

That is not luck. It is a mentor, a coach, and a scholarship, starting in middle school and staying put through the hard parts.

Why middle school?

Because by the time a student is a senior, a lot of it has already been decided. Which classes they took. Whether anyone told them college was possible. Whether they believed it.

So we start earlier. A mentor, a plan, and a scholarship waiting if they hold up their end.

Years of having someone in your corner. That's the whole idea.

Here is what showing up looks like on paper.

In 2025-2026, our students took part in more than 2,353 mentor sessions. Those same students maintained an average 3.63 GPA.

The mentors did not tutor anybody. They sat down at school, asked how it was going, and came back the next time.

If you have never heard of us, here is the short version.

Take Stock in Children of Broward County works with deserving low-income students in Broward County. We start in middle school, not senior year.

A student who signs on gets mentoring, college and career readiness, and individualized case management, plus a scholarship for post-secondary education.

They sign a contract. They keep their grades up, stay out of trouble, and meet with their mentor. We stay with them through high school and into college.

In 2025-2026, 100% of our students participated in at least four College and Career Success Coaching sessions, and 96% attended all of their grade-level college and career readiness workshops.

All of it is aimed at one thing, which is to break the cycle of poverty through education.

Attention!! We are looking for mentors!!

Here is the whole job:

You meet with one student. During this time, you talk about school, about what is hard right now, about what they want to do after high school, etc.

You don't need a degree in anything. You don't need to have the answers. The goal is to make an impact on our students!

Mentors meet with their student at school and virtually via Zoom or on the TSIC app, 2x per month.
