💜 CONGRATULATIONS, TIA! 💜

Last night, we had the incredible honor of presenting Tia Blanchard with the very first Jordyn’s Promise NICU Nurse of the Year Award.

Tia was one of Jordyn’s NICU nurses, and like so many families who have walked through the NICU doors, our family experienced firsthand the compassion, dedication, and unwavering support she provided. While NICU nurses care for the tiniest patients, they also care for scared, overwhelmed, and exhausted parents. Tia did that exceptionally well.

Throughout her career, Tia has gone above and beyond for NICU families. She has comforted parents during some of their hardest days, celebrated milestones both big and small, advocated fiercely for her patients, and provided expert care when families needed it most. Her impact reaches far beyond the walls of the NICU and extends into the lives of countless families who will never forget the role she played in their journey.

This award was originally scheduled to be presented during NICU Awareness Month in September, but with Tia preparing to begin her next chapter at Minnesota Children’s, we knew we couldn’t let her leave without recognizing her extraordinary service. We were honored to present this award at her going-away celebration, surrounded by friends and colleagues who have witnessed her dedication firsthand.

When I sat beside my daughter in the NICU, I saw how hard these nurses worked and how much of themselves they gave to the families they served. Their compassion makes an impossible situation just a little more bearable. That experience inspired the creation of this award so that exceptional NICU nurses like Tia receive the recognition they deserve.

Congratulations, Tia, on being our inaugural NICU Nurse of the Year. Thank you for the countless babies you have cared for, the families you have supported, and the lasting difference you have made in so many lives. Your legacy will continue long after your time here.

💜 Nominations for the 2026 Jordyn’s Promise NICU Nurse of the Year Award are now open on our website.

Tomorrow is the last day of May, which means tomorrow is the last day of Mental Health Awareness Month.

When I think of mental health in the NICU, it is indescribable. It’s every emotion at once. Fear, hope, grief, exhaustion, gratitude, and often, numbness. It was hard, defeating, and often lonely.

You separate yourself from people to protect your baby. If you have even a stuffy nose, you don’t dare step into that hospital room because it could be the difference between life and death. It means missing family gatherings and moments. It means time away from your baby when every second feels precious and every phone call makes your heart stop because a medical emergency could happen and you may not be there.

It’s navigating medical terms you don’t even know how to pronounce, let alone understand. It’s trying to make life-changing decisions while running on little sleep and overwhelming fear. It’s handing your child over to a team of doctors and nurses when every instinct tells you they belong in your arms. It’s learning to trust machines, monitors, and medical professionals with the most precious thing in your life.

The NICU doesn’t just impact babies. It impacts parents, siblings, grandparents, and entire support systems. It changes you in ways that are difficult to explain to someone who hasn’t lived it.

That’s why we created Jordyn’s Promise. Because we’ve been there. We know the hurt, the longing, the loneliness, and the strength it takes to keep showing up day after day while your world has been turned upside down.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, we want NICU families to know that what you’re feeling is real. The fear is real. The exhaustion is real. The trauma is real.

We see you. We support you. And we will continue working to make sure no NICU family has to walk this journey alone.

With this being the last week of May we wanted to take a moment to remind NICU nurses that they can refer families in need to us! All we need is a gender and an address the rest is done by us. Note this also is for foster babies in the NICU who may not have a placement. If you don't have time to fill out the form call us! The address can be a personal address or a nurse who is willing to bring in package for the family. Any second hand referrals will be delivered anonymously to protect privacy. We can get a package sent ASAP usually shipped 1-2 business days from request. We are here to help all NICU families this includes families who may have been life flighted to higher level care hospitals.

May is foster care awareness month! We know babies sometimes are not placed with a family until they have a discharge date. We want to make sure those families have resources and something for babies to go home with.
