The old saying goes something like “life’s about the journey, not the destination”. At Prairie Grit, we believe that to be true, but sometimes the journey takes you to one of your favorite destinations. This week Christy’s journey took her to one of our favorite ranches in Wyoming. Her goal was a pronghorn buck. This was a bucket list hunt for Christy. A pretty big challenge for someone who was new to hunting just a few years ago. But Christy has what it takes. She practices hard, is eager to learn, and is always asking advice. She put in her time this summer making sure that she was ready.
Our first setup was overrun by some very curious and friendly cows. When we realized that wasn’t going to work, we relocated and action followed quickly. The first group that came in didn’t give us a chance to make a clean shot, so we let them pass. A few minutes later more antelope were coming down the hill. Morgan and Christy had to change the setup to shoot out of a different window. That ended up being the right move. The group of 5 antelope, with 2 good bucks followed the trail right where we needed them. When the best of the 2 bucks stopped broadside at 117 yards, all of Christy’s practice paid off. A perfect heart shot.
We are so fortunate to get to share these times together. Christy, Morgan, and D.J. get a memory that they will share forever. Christy gets a trophy for the wall and meat in the freezer. Well Christy, you have tagged deer, turkey, and antelope. What’s next on that bucket list???
