The Minot Prairie Quilt Guild was organized in July, 1981, with thirteen women. Today its membership has grown to over 150 members. During the year the guild offers quilting classes for all levels of quilting ability, helps with the display and judging of the quilts at the North Dakota State Fair, sponsors a booth at Hostfest, and works on various community service projects. Some examples of these
projects are: making quilts for local hospitals, nursing homes, and the Domestic Violence Crisis Center, and giving quilting demonstrations in schools and at the North Dakota State Fair. The guild also maintains a lending library of quilting books and patterns for its members. The Minot Prairie Quilt Festival is the guild's most ambitious project. This annual event, held each spring at the Clarion Hotel, consists of a quilt show, quilt classes and demonstrations offered by area and national teachers, and the ever popular vendors' market. Every year the guild designs and produces a raffle quilt. The money raised from the quilt helps fund community service projects and subsidized educational classes and programs for its members. The Minot Prairie Quilt Guild is a diverse group of women with a variety of backgrounds and interests. The guild usually meets the first Thursday of every month. We are currently meeting at the Vincent United Methodist Church, 1024 2nd Street SE, Minot. or would just like to give quilting a try someday, we welcome you. No experience is necessary to join - just a love of quilts.
