Hope everyone got outside this past weekend! Lots of sun and temps that hit 70 degrees made it a great time to enjoy fall. Looks like resident Geri Mulliner had the right idea:
"Kayaking in late October? Yes please! We have a migrating juvenile loon visiting this week! Otter sightings earlier this week. These are reasons to love autumn in the north woods!"
How did you make the most of the good weather?

Another news flash and photo from Geri Mulliner! "We had a juvenile loon floating around South Twin on 9/29 and 9/30! Could be our chick from this year, or another stopping by (like what happened last year). Regardless, we are no longer loon-less!"
Thank you, Geri!

Thanks to South Twin resident Geri Mulliner for this update on this season's loons!
South Twin Lake Loon Ranger Report
The Father Loon left South Twin around 9/4/22. The Mother is tending the chick who is now fully “fledged." The mother has been practicing “tough love” refusing to fish for the chick. The chick’s efforts to poke at mother for food when she surfaces are met with mother diving or distancing herself from the chick. The chick is now making loon noises which are almost adult like and are quite cute! The Mother was noted to be flying around South Twin (9/13) several times this morning, I suspect she is getting ready to begin her journey. The chick has been making some efforts to “fly” flapping wings and running over the surface of the water for several days.
