Andy Titze Memorial Chili Cook Off Influencing charity through tasty food and good people.

02/02/2024

Due to unforeseen circumstances at the Hopkins American Legion (electrical issues in the basement are causing heating issues AKA there is no power down there), we need to reschedule the chili cook-off. Please stay tuned for an announcement about the new date. Thank you for you patience and understanding!
So annoying! 🙂 But we'll find a new weekend! Reach out to Heidi, Pat or Nic with any questions!

One part of the Andy Titze Memorial Chili Cook Off that sometimes gets glazed over is the fact that we actually donate some of the funds to a charity, family, or person in need. Joe Mottlow was the recipient a couple of times in his long battle with cancer. What most people don't know is that Joe passed on most if not all of what he received to someone that needed it more than he did. This small gesture embodies what Joe was as a person. Joe moved onto his spiritual life yesterday after a 6+ year battle with cancer (F**k cancer!). I know the one thing that I have learned over the past few years is to not waste a minute. Joe fought hard (JOEJOETOUGH!!!!) for every minute that he was given. He lived his life with grace, humility, love, and friendship. He proved this until the end of his battle. He could care less about your differences and accepted you as a person. That was one of Joe's greatest gifts to all of us was his acceptance in taking on many friends, and being a great friend in that. I am so sorry to the Mottlow family. I know the world is a little less bright today, but know that we will always have Joe in our hearts. We are also so grateful for his love of social media and the fact that we have so much to look back on. What a gift he has left us. Everyone please keep the Mottlow family in your thoughts! -Pat

Thanks everyone for a fantastic event last night. It was great to be back at the legion and see so many faces that I haven’t seen in a while. When I got everything packed up last night I was exhausted and thought it had to be at least 1am, well, it was 10:45pm. I guess that is a sign that we can pack in the party well before 10pm. Congrats to Nick Titze and his ketchup and corn chili for winning the championship! Hope to see you all next year! -Pat

Update on Joe Mottlow. Please send your thoughts, prayers, and good vibes his way!

Good Evening JoeJoe Toughens,

Most difficult post to date...

On a recent MRI of Joe's liver to see if proper healing took place after the early May bleed Joe had, it revealed spots in his kidneys. We have since learned these spots are the dreaded ALL(b-cell) IGH ph.neg that has reared its ugly head now six times in the past five years.

Treatment options have been exhausted.

This week Joe will be having a lumbar puncture (spinal tap), full body scan and another bone marrow biopsy to determine if this beast is residing elsewhere in Joe's body. If it is only in the kidneys, Joe will be gracing us for another 3 to 6 months. This weeks results may alter that timeline..

We will be having a 'JoeJoe's Coming Home Gathering' at a time Joe will be strong enough to enjoy the day. As we learn this week's results a date and location will be announced.

It has been a proud honor for Scott and I to watch Joe navigate all the trials and tribulations of these past five years and to see all the lives he has touched and helped. Joe has, for many of us, redefined the true meaning of what living a successful life really means.

We could have not gotten through this without the love and support of Joe's Army of JoeJoe Toughens - our family and friends; you have blessed us and I'm sure will continue to as we enter the final chapter of Joe's life.

💕 Thank you from the bottom of our hearts - I've got to go cry now....

Hi everyone, Pat here. This page has been pretty quiet for a few Covid months, but I promise that when the Covid clears we will all get together soon and I will win the Chili cook off and if the votes don’t add up I will sue and file lawsuits until they do.
I just wanted to grab your attention because our near and dear friend Joe Mottlow is starting his 5th battle against Cancer this week. The Joe Joe Tough campaign is raising funds again for his battle so if you have a couple bucks for a shirt please go to his page, add him because he will accept, and take a look at his cool shirts. His posts are also motivating to say the least. Stay strong Joe Mottlow!

Miss all of you!!!
