🎨💙 MEET THE ARTIST BEHIND THIS YEAR'S RACE SHIRT 💙🎨

This year's 5K shirt was designed by a local artist with special needs — and his
talent isn't the only thing that'll move you.

When he won a $100 gift card for his design, he didn't just spend it on himself. He
used it to buy his mom coffee. 🥹☕

That's what this race is all about — a community that shows up for each other, in
ways big and small.

We were thrilled to be the sponsor for the South Lake Chamber of Commerce (FL) Breakfast this morning!

Our founder, Dr. Terri Howard, BCBA-D shared (minute mark 1hr 7min) about our mission, the individuals we serve, and the importance of medical desensitization as we launch:
1. Medical desensitization kits- we are creating kits that will take individuals with special needs from a place of fear to familiarity when it comes to procedures like blood draws, routine check ups, and dental visits. The kits will have video tutorials, resources, and the medical equipment used so individuals can practice at their own pace.
We’re so grateful for the grant we’re receiving from Community Foundation of South Lake which will cover the costs of the first 50 kits for local South Lake residents with special needs! The grant will also cover $10,000 in the grants that we provide to help fill the gap for needed therapies and special education.

2. Training on Special Needs for Healthcare Professionals- Dr. Terri Howard, BCBA-D will be training 5 local healthcare providers on working with individuals who have special needs. Providers will learn:
- Medical desensitization techniques and their applications in a clinical setting.
- Practical strategies for reducing anxiety and sensory overwhelm.
- Communication and accommodation strategies for patients with autism, sensory processing differences, and developmental disabilities.
- Managing challenging behaviors and troubleshooting scenarios.
- How to modify treatment plans specific to a patient’s needs.
- Resources- quick reference guides, tools and resources for patients and caregivers.
