South Lake Youth Sports -SLYS Welcome to the South Lake Youth Sports page! We are open to ALL children, ages 3-16 throughout the Lake County area.

We are a recreational (and travel) baseball organization chartered under Babe Ruth League and based in Minneola, FL.

Best wishes and safe travels to both our South Lake 6u and 8u All-Stars and their families as they head to Palm Beach Gardens for the South Florida State Tournament!! Round robin play begins tomorrow - Thur June 11th - in the morning. Please see the attached flyers for game info and as always, stay tuned to GameChanger and our league socials for updates on both teams’ progress at the tournament.

We’d like to give a huge shoutout to our South Lake 6u B and 8u B All-Star teams that competed in the Florida State B Tournament this past weekend. While the outcome may not have gone the way that the teams hoped, the extra weeks of practices and the tournament games themselves will go a long way towards preparing the players, coaches, and our entire league in future All-Star campaigns for seasons to come. We are so proud of the heart shown on the field and the way they represented their families, friends and our league!!

Monday and Tuesday marked a wrap to the tournament trails for both our South Lake Babe Ruth 10u & 12u teams at the District 10 All-Star Championships…

Our 10u All-Stars took on a tough opponent, Spring Hill, in the 3rd Place Consolation Game with an invite to the State tournament on the line. The kids gave everything out on that field, but unfortunately could not keep up and lost, 3-13. Cheers to this great group of kids and all that they accomplished!

Our 12u All-Stars’ first matched up against - you guessed it - Spring Hill, haha. It was a tightly contested game that came down to the final inning, but ultimately the team fell, 4-6. In the 3rd Place Consolation Game, again with a State invite on the line, South Lake took on Ocala Rotary A. The final score, a 4-14 loss, was nowhere near indicative of how close and well-played the game actually was. The team chemistry between these players and coaches alike was unmatched and an absolute joy to see!

We couldn’t be any prouder of these incredible tournament runs and all the heart, dedication, and skill level that these All-Star teams displayed throughout this tournament weekend!! Way to represent your families, friends and the whole South Lake community so well!!

Sunday was another great day for both our South Lake 10u & 12u All-Stars at the District 10 Tournament…

On the 10u field, our All-Stars took on Carrigan (Ocala). Our kids were hot on offense and steady on defense from start to finish, winning by a score of 12–5! With the win, the team advanced to the Championship Bracket where they took on our neighbors and friends (and family, lol) from Groveland in the second game of the day. Our kids fought as hard as they could, but unfortunately fell by a score of 1-16. However, the journey is not over for this wonderful group of kids! Tonight, they take on Spring Hill at 6:00pm on Field 5 for a chance at 3rd place and an invite to the State Championships in late June!!

In 12u action, our All-Stars matched up against Mt. Dora A in the morning and, for the THIRD game in a row, it came down to extra innings! Once again, our kids proved their grit by walking it off, 5-4! The win then propelled them to a second game against Brooksville. That game was incredibly tight going into the bottom of the 6th inning, when a costly pitching mistake by our opponent and an astute protest by our coaching staff led to a forfeit victory. The win advanced the team into the Championship Bracket, with two guaranteed games - tonight against Spring Hill at 6:00pm on Field 2 and tomorrow night at 6:00pm against a TBD opponent. A finish of 3rd place or better will earn the team an invite to the same State Championships in late June!!

For all South Lake fans following along, here are the most up-to-date brackets due to weather changes. Thank you for your patience!

Despite the uncooperative weather, it’s been an eventful start to the Tournament Trail for both our South Lake 10u & 12u All-Stars…

Friday night saw our 10u team in a back-and-forth battle with Sorrento that needed extras to decide! In that extra inning, our kids poured on all the insurance runs they could and won by a score of 14-10!! On Saturday morning, the team matched up against Brooksville. Our defense made some fantastic plays, but unfortunately our opponent was hard to stop and South Lake fell, 0-15.

In 12u action, Friday pitted our team against Brooksville in the first round. They put up a great fight, but ultimately lost by a score of 3-9. However, on Saturday, the team rebounded in tremendous fashion - winning not only one, but TWO extra inning games!! The morning saw South Lake take down Ocala Rotary B, 8-6! And in the afternoon, they matched up against Carrigan (Ocala) and walked it off, 13-12!!

In both victory and defeat, all of our All-Stars have played incredibly tough and given every ounce of heart and determination that they had, showing everyone exactly what South Lake is made of!!

Both teams are back in action on Sunday morning in Bushnell as they continue their Tournament Trail…
• SLYS 10u @ Carrigan - 9:00am - Field 4
• SLYS 12u vs Mt Dora A - 9:00am - Field 2
• Wins by either/both teams will also mean a second game at 11:00am

We know that everyone is excited to see the team photos, brackets and root on our South Lake 10u and 12u All-Star teams!! 😁 Unfortunately, due to inclement weather, the Wed May 27th games were suspended and/or postponed to this evening, Thur May 28th. The plan, for now, is to move the Thursday games to Fri May 29th. Stay tuned for future posts after tonight’s resumed games have been *hopefully* completed.
