Congratulations to Allison Schwarz
Allison Schwarz is the 202324 Wesley Student Council President. Allison is set to graduate with her Master of Divinity in May of 2024. Before that, however, she is looking forward to one last year filled with opportunities at Wesley.
Allison has found Wesley to be a place to explore the intersection of her calling, the world’s deep need, and God’s abundant grace. She works with the innovation hub, sings in the choir, and serves two local churches. Stepping into roles of leadership at Wesley has given her hope for her future in ministry.
Being from the Minnesota Annual Conference in the United Methodist Church, she found herself in Arlington, Virginia, where she felt the Holy Spirit led her to Walker Chapel. Allison shared her experience as an intern at her PMM, the practice of ministry and mission at Walker Chapel United Methodist Church. This small, reconciling congregation welcomed her with open arms, providing an enriching environment for her to learn and grow.
As an intern, Allison was given opportunities to develop her preaching voice, build relationships with the youth, and serve alongside their community partners. With the guidance of Pastor Lynne, she learned to keep it simple and do life together. While at Walker Chapel, Allison has solidified a few important lessons for her. “1. It’s vital to stand up for inclusion. 2. Faith communities live out their faith in the simple things like eating, walking, and talking together. 3. It’s not about me. There is always more to the story.”
As Allison continues to serve at Walker Chapel and finish her seminary journey, she prays that everyone would trust the process, measure what matters, and keep it simple. We are grateful for Allison’s leadership and commitment to serving others in the community.
