The 6th Woodrunners rovers led a paddling safety class with our pathfinders at a local lake yesterday. The team practiced righting an overturned canoe, emptying the water, and re-entering the canoe safely. The pathfinders acquired the new skills and overcome the fear of flipping a canoe. The youths enjoyed the experience so much that they were instructed not to flip their canoe intentionally. Well, we will see.

Today we are remembering the 6th years anniversary of George Floyd murder. We are reflecting on the grief, the inequality, and the painful truth about the race in our community. We, as a small local community group, are reflecting on our continuing commitment toward overcoming the struggles and working with the collective community toward making progress, both in our umbrella organization and the local community we served.

May 1st is the first day of permit season to visit the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA) in Minnesota. This year feel very different to many of us. In the news, the federal government have stripped the protections that forbid the sulfide-ore copper mining near the watershed of BWCA wilderness, which put this beloved and most visited wilderness in danger.
As a group based in Minnesota, we have been doing our part to participate and to support the larger community and movement to make the permanent BWCA protections, a goal. We reaffirm our commitment to be part of the saving boundary waters movement, especially with our community partner . We will continue to support the coalition to the best of our abilities.

Today is the day, call your senators now!

This is the critical moment we’ve been anticipating.

Latest intel from Capitol Hill: time is being held on the Senate floor tomorrow to vote on a resolution that would dismantle the 20-year mining protections for the Boundary Waters.

Already called your Senators? Call again: (202) 224-3121 – tell them to vote no on HJ Resolution 140.

When offices hear from a flood of people at once, it sends a clear message: This matters. People are paying attention. And their constituents will remember their vote.
