Picture this. This November, you’re exploring Vietnam and Laos, eating incredible food, laughing with strangers who quickly become friends, collecting the kind of adventures you’ll tell stories about forever. And then you hand someone a photograph of themselves. Their very first one. You watch their whole face change. That’s the thing about kindness, it builds connection, and you walk away never the same.

Apply to join our team by May 15th.

We made a new video to share our story, and we need your help! 🥰

Print the Love is in the running for a grant from , and voting closes Sunday, February 15th, 2026.

For 10 years, Print the Love has been showing up in communities around the world with a simple gift - an instant photograph and a moment of being truly seen.

We’re one of the only nonprofits that enters communities with no intention to change anything - just to celebrate the people for who they are. Most organizations show up to fix something. We show up to honor dignity.

We’ve watched children light up seeing themselves for the first time in a photo. We’ve placed photos in the hands of grandmothers, refugees, families who’ve never owned a picture of themselves together.

"Nonprofits are constantly told to “tell powerful stories” to move donors, but what happens when those stories come at the expense of the people you serve? In this episode, we dive into the messy, important questions behind ethical storytelling: consent, power, and what it really means to honor people’s dignity in your fundraising and communications. Maria and Ceallaigh unpack how photos and personal narratives have historically been used in extractive, colonial ways, and why “we got a signed form” is not enough.

On this week’s episode of The Small Nonprofit Podcast, Maria Rio sits down with Ceallaigh Smart, Executive Director of Print the Love and Haiti Outreach. Ceallaigh shares how Print the Love has given over 17,000 photos in 27 countries without keeping copies and what that kind of values-driven approach can teach any organization about consent, autonomy, and trust. Nonprofit leaders will walk away with practical ideas on how to audit their current storytelling, start real conversations with their communities, and build policies that center dignity."

El Salvador!

Our four-person team—Andrea, Ella, local translator Estefany, and Ceallaigh—spent 8 days trekking across El Salvador, spreading photo love and giving away 1,000 instant photos to communities throughout the country. Beyond the photos, we delivered over 100 custom notecards to school children, each one handmade by elementary students in Minnesota and inscribed with "You matter!" in Spanish. This kid-to-kid connection has become a cherished Print the Love tradition—bringing messages of encouragement from U.S. children to kids in the countries we visit, always written in their native language.

From the very first trip, Ceallaigh noticed something heartbreaking: within moments of receiving their instant photos, small children would accidentally bend and crease them. We dreamed of giving everyone a frame to protect their precious keepsake, but carrying frames to remote communities simply wasn't practical—too heavy, too bulky.

We needed a solution.

The instant photos coming out of our cameras were beautiful but fragile. We started brainstorming ways to create protective covers that were both transparent and packable. Then it hit us: collectors use plastic sleeves to preserve sports cards and trading cards. Perfect!

But there was a problem. These sleeves aren't cheap, and we needed one for every single photo we gave away—that meant thousands of sleeves for each trip. Where would we find that kind of support?

Enter UltraPRO (). This leading company in protective storage answered our call with overwhelming generosity, donating thousands of sleeves to keep photos safe and long-lasting for years to come. These sleeves protect against UV rays, water, dust, and daily wear and tear—meaning families can preserve these keepsakes safe for decades! The kindness of the people at UltraPRO has made such a difference in our ability to give people memories they can truly treasure.

Here are some examples of these sturdy, protective sleeves in action.

10-Year Anniversary Highlight: Artist Talk with David Guttenfelder

Our third Artist Talk featured award-winning National Geographic photojournalist David Guttenfelder (), who shared his perspective on photography as a powerful tool for connection, understanding, and breaking down barriers between cultures.

Guttenfelder's credentials are remarkable: he's a recipient of the World Press Photo Award and Pictures of the Year International, a seven-time Pulitzer Prize finalist in breaking news and feature photography, and in 2016, TIME magazine named one of his North Korea photographs among the "100 Most Influential Photographs Ever Taken."

His complete talk is available on our website under Blogs https://www.printthelove.org/blog/artist-talk-2021-david-guttenfelder, and we highly recommend following his work—his coverage of current global events continues to be extraordinarily powerful and relevant.
