The initial focus will be on coordinating workshops for therapists, counselors, and other providers in Minnesota and surrounding states who are working with survivors of trauma, recognizing that working with trauma requires specialized training. Our goal is to bring in leading experts to provide practical workshops on topics including:
trauma theory
trauma treatment
dissociation
affective neurosc
ience
co-occurring disorders
development/attachment
shame
The hope is that equipping and preparing providers of various disciplines to offer competent, trauma informed services will help people suffering from the effects of trauma have increased access to the care that they need. As an organization developed by providers for providers, a primary aim of MN Trauma Project will be to utilize feedback from participants to develop/coordinate workshops that specifically meet the needs of the trauma treatment provider community and expands that community. MN Trauma Project aims to create spaces where trauma providers can network and develop relationships so as to broaden the support within the professional community, ease the process of making referrals, and gradually improve access to trauma competent care for the clients whom we serve. While the initial focus of MN Trauma Project will be developing and coordinating local trainings and workshops, the eventual goal is to utilize all funds generated from workshops/training to provide financial resources to fund trauma informed therapy services for survivors of trauma unable to afford care.
