It can be hard to talk about the election. Maybe you worry that bringing up an issue that’s important to you will start an argument. Or maybe emotions are running so high that you’d rather walk away than engage. That’s where the MCC Respectful Conversation on 10/27 comes in.

Join us from 6:00 p.m.-8:30 p.m. at Faith United Methodist Church - St. Anthony, MN to learn how to share your story and values while staying curious about others’ stories and values, even when they differ. The event is free to attend but registration is required.

Fall is here, but we’re still thinking about the fun we had at Prayer at the Fair with MCC Board Chair Pastor Tawanna Black! Not only did she lead fairgoers in a powerful prayer the first Sunday of the Minnesota State Fair, but she also shared about what it means to love our neighbors, truly surrender to God during difficult times, and live out our faith in a way that best serves the community around us.

For generations, attendance at certain boarding schools has been associated with privilege. But for many Indigenous people, the term "boarding school" carries an entirely different meaning. The term evokes separation. Loss. Forced assimilation. And, for some families, children who never came home.

On September 30, the National Day of Remembrance for Indian Boarding School Survivors calls us to confront a history whose consequences did not end when federal Indian boarding schools closed. Here in Minnesota, there were at least 21 of those schools, dating back as far as 1871.

As Christians, remembrance requires something more of us—Christian denominations, missionaries, and religious institutions participated in the boarding-school system. That truth should grieve the church and we must have the courage to say that was not the way of Christ.

And so we remember with humility. We confess with honesty. Where harm was done, we commit ourselves to the long, necessary work of repair. We must never again allow the name of Christ to provide religious cover for the dehumanization or forced assimilation of any people.

What an incredible night celebrating our new home in St. Paul last Thursday! Thank you to everyone who came to our open house to fellowship with us, learn more about MCC, and discover opportunities to help build livable communities for all Minnesotans.

A special thank-you to Mayor Kaohly Her, who officially welcomed us to the city; Bishop Richard D. Howell Ministries our former board chair who blessed our space; and all of our friends across the state who came to support us.
