As we close out AAPI Heritage Month, we’re highlighting Banh-Mi, a recipe from the Charlie Cart curriculum that invites students to explore food, culture, and learning all at once.

Along with making the popular Vietnamese sandwich, students discover how food reflects history and cultural exchange, reminding them that every recipe has a story. Charlie Cart members can find the full lesson in the curriculum and bring this recipe to life in their own communities.

As the school year winds down, summer offers a new kind of classroom. The kitchen, the garden, the farmers market, even the grocery store can all be places where kids learn about food, build confidence, and stay curious.

Summer break is a great time to keep food learning going in simple, everyday ways. Let kids help wash produce, choose a recipe, pack a snack, or taste something new.

Across the country, libraries are using the Charlie Cart to bring hands-on cooking, simple recipes, and meaningful learning to kids and families in their communities. The setting may look different, but the impact is the same: confidence grows, curiosity sparks, and food becomes a tool for connection.

Libraries are trusted, welcoming spaces for discovery, and food education fits right in. From storytime to snack prep, Charlie Cart helps turn libraries into places where learning comes to life in a whole new way.

Have you seen a Charlie Cart at a library yet?

What’s in season right now? May means bright strawberries, fresh herbs, and crisp spring greens.

Seasonal ingredients are a fun way to get kids curious in the kitchen. Slice strawberries, smell fresh herbs, or try a simple greens recipe together. Food Education can start with just one ingredient and a little curiosity. What’s your favorite seasonal ingredient to cook with this time of year?

Last month at , we asked educators and library leaders why food education matters in their communities and what they love about using the Charlie Cart. Hearing these stories reminds us that hands-on learning is more than a lesson. It’s an experience that stays with kids and families long after the class ends. Thank you to everyone who stopped by, shared your voice, and continues to bring food education into your community.

Which moment resonated with you most? Let us know in the comments.

Food education does not happen on its own. It takes teachers, librarians, food service teams, and site partners who show up with care, creativity, and commitment.

This Teacher Appreciation Week, we’re celebrating the people behind hands-on learning. The educators who prep the space, guide the lesson, encourage brave bites, and help kids discover confidence in the kitchen.

Thank you for making food education possible in classrooms, libraries, cafeterias, and community spaces every day. Your work helps kids build skills that last far beyond the lesson.
