In Episode 1 of Let’s Talk: Sophie’s Squad, Marlene Boissonnault shares a powerful story from her time with Team Canada.

Before a test, Marlene spoke with a veteran teammate she looked up to and assumed had everything figured out. To her surprise, that teammate admitted she was nervous too. In that moment, Marlene realized something important: no matter our level of success, we’re all human.

We all experience challenges, doubts, and struggles. The moments that create the strongest teams aren’t when we pretend everything is perfect—they’re when we’re honest with each other.

The people who are willing to be vulnerable, share their experiences, and open up about what they’re going through often have the biggest impact on those around them. Their honesty reminds others that they aren’t alone.

Watch the full conversation with Marlene on our YouTube channel and hear more about the lessons she’s learned through hockey, mental health, and resilience.

At Sophie’s Squad, we’re proud to share that funds we raise go directly toward providing FREE mental health resources and awareness materials to high school and college teams across North America.

Because of the incredible support from our community, sponsors, donors, and volunteers, we have now placed mental health resources into the hands of more than 70,000 student-athletes.

From locker rooms to team meetings, these resources help start important conversations, reduce stigma, and remind athletes that asking for help is a sign of strength.

Together, we are creating a culture where mental health is talked about just as openly as physical health.

Thank you for helping us make an impact—one athlete, one team, and one conversation at a time. 💜🩵

Your mind deserves a break.

Try “window gazing” for a minute or two:

🌳 Watch the trees move
🐦 Follow a bird’s flight
☁️ Notice the clouds drifting by

These small moments can help reduce mental fatigue and restore focus.
