Today, on World Humanitarian Day, L4OA Charities shines a light on Genevieve’s Garden.

A small garden, a big table.

The story of how a few volunteers on Sunset Boulevard turned an empty lot into a place to eat, talk, and belong.

Genevieve’s Garden began as a simple response to a neighbourhood need: if there’s food, hand it out; if there’s space, open it up. Five years in, it’s more than a meal provider — it’s a sanctuary for anyone in need, including the homeless and low-income individuals who call Hollywood home.

Under the leadership of JL, the garden extends its mission into full, practical support — a listening ear, a warm plate, and a hand with whatever comes next. JL is known for his approachability and readiness to help, and that ethos is the garden’s north star: community care, offered without conditions.

Genevieve’s Garden is a beautiful example of what happens when the love we get becomes the love we make. A meal becomes connection. A garden becomes a gathering place. A helping hand becomes hope.

As we launch our second community initiative, The Love We Make, in Los Angeles on October 2, we look forward to making more love together—turning love into action with the love we make, creating connection, and making a difference one person, one community, and one act of kindness at a time.
