As Holocaust survivors pass from living memory, it’s imperative that educators personally engage with authentic historic sites — where truth resides & history is held in the land itself. In the absence of survivors, place remains a powerful witness, echoing voices like that of Yitskhok Rudashevs

JCRC's 2026 European Summer Institute for Holocaust Educators with the Humanus Network leaves today for Lithuania with 21 educators from 14 states!

Author and educator Alexandra Zapruder joins our group this year with her text, Salvaged Pages: Young Writers’ Diaries of the Holocaust, serving as a guide as we travel from Lithuania to Poland to Amsterdam.

You will be able to follow their experience here and on the JCRC blog on our site. Please feel free to ask questions and share observations with the group over the course of this 12-day immersive experience.

“The Jewish community, like all religious communities, must be able to worship and practice their faith without fear,” Sen. Amy Klobuchar told more than 700 people at the Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas' annual event.

Our 2026 Annual Event featured Sarah Hurwitz, the amazing storyteller and author of As a Jew: Reclaiming Our Story from Those Who Shame, Blame, and Try to Erase Us. Her message was clear: when Jews know their story they cannot be diminished by hatred.

Against the mounting challenges facing our people here in Minnesota, the Dakotas and beyond, JCRC carries our story forward with pride and safeguards our community through education, advocacy and security.

Thanks to the Fund for Teachers for sharing this interview with Jody Rohweller-Kocur, who teaches at Highland Park High School in Saint Paul, and Jenai Sheffels at Tesla STEM High School in Redmond, Washington. Each was awarded a grant from the Fund to participate in the 2025 European Summer Institute for Holocaust Educators, during which JCRC and Humanus Network took them to Austria, Poland, and Italy.

Ahead of this year's Power of Place trip, which leaves next week, we're reflecting on their experiences as they stood side by side at Auschwitz and sites across the European theater of World War II, deepening their own understanding of history in order to lead student inquiry that fosters critical thinking, awareness, and action.

JCRC again sponsored Topical Prizes at the 2026 Minnesota State History Day Competition for both the Junior and Senior divisions in Holocaust History (1933-1949), for which we received 10 entries.

Prize winners in the junior and senior divisions were from students at Salk STEM Middle School in Elk River, who did a group website on The White Rose, a German Anti-Nazi Resistance Group; and a student from Christ’s Household of Faith in St. Paul who produced an individual documentary entitled “Burning the 'Un-German Spirit:' A Revolution Against Jewish Intellectualism, Censorship, and Reforms for Cultural Control."
