Green Card Voices

Green Card Voices Green Card Voices is a non-profit organization dedicated to building an inclusive community

Green Card Voices is a Minneapolis based, nationally growing non profit that connects immigrants and their communities through multimedia storytelling. We record the first person narratives of immigrants, and publish them in books, online and in traveling exhibits. So far we have recorded the stories of over 500 immigrants and refugees who are originally from over 140 countries and who now reside

in Minnesota, New York, New Jersey, California, North Dakota, Georgia and Wisconsin. Green Card Voices was born from the idea that the broad narrative of current immigrants should be communicated in a way true to each immigrant’s story. Green Card Voices seeks to be a new lens for those in the immigration dialogue. Our programming is designed to empower educational institutions, community groups, and individuals alike to acquire first person perspectives about immigrants’ lives, to foster empathy and build appreciation for the immigrant experience in America. Over a million and a half people have experienced our content so far.

They arrived speaking different languages, carrying different histories, and dreaming different dreams.

Today, they are the Class of 2026.

Some crossed oceans. Some crossed borders. Some crossed impossible odds.

And now they're crossing a graduation stage.

At Green Card Voices, we've had the privilege of helping immigrant and refugee youth share their stories with the world. We've watched students become authors, leaders, advocates, and graduates.

This milestone is about more than a diploma.
It's about resilience.
It's about family sacrifices.
It's about courage.
It's about belonging.

To every immigrant and refugee graduate: your story matters. Your voice matters. Join us in celebrating the Class of 2026.

Drop a 🎓 below to congratulate a graduate and share this post to help us honor the next generation of storytellers, changemakers, and community leaders.

She fled Ukraine with her two children and two suitcases. Now she's a published author, and she stood in front of a room full of teachers and shared her story. 🇺🇦📖

Mila Mostova, author of "Escaping Ukraine, Finding Hope", joined longtime educator Kathy Seipp at the Minnesota Council of Teachers of English (MCTE) to share why representation in literacy matters.

When students see their languages, cultures, and experiences reflected in books, something powerful happens.

They read more. They participate more. They believe their stories matter.

Graphic memoirs are more than books.

They're mirrors for students who rarely see themselves.
They're windows for students learning about others.
They're reminders that every story belongs.

Immigrant and refugee youth are not just the subjects of stories. They are the storytellers. They are the authors.

Thank you, Mila. Thank you, Kathy. And thank you to every educator committed to creating classrooms where all students can see themselves on the page.

Book Reading CANCELLED.

Out of care for the wellbeing of our youth and community, tonight’s event has been cancelled. We hold deep respect for the moment we are in and the voices that matter most.

Stay tuned for upcoming events that will continue to uplift and showcase the powerful stories of immigrant youth.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

What happens when we let young people speak for themselves?
Three student authors. Three countries. Their stories told in their own words.

Lisa (Ukrainian), M***a (Congolese & Tanzanian), and Buka (Mongolian) are the authors of Green Card Youth Voices: Chicago and they'll share their experiences, journeys, and reflections live.

Join NASP's Social Justice Committee for this year's National Book Read webinar. This is storytelling as a tool for belonging. For healing. For building spaces where every young person sees themselves reflected.

For educators, school psychologists, and anyone who believes that the stories we center in our communities matter. This one's worth an hour of your time.

This is a hard moment for many in our community.

"We Had Whistles: Minnesotans Under Operation Metro Surge" is a new oral history project documenting how immigrants and their neighbors are living through this time in Minnesota.

In partnership with Alight and funded by the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund, we're holding two Listening Sessions - to listen, reflect together, and let the community guide how these stories are gathered, protected, and shared.

Virtual: April 30, 2026 | 7:00-8:00 pm | Zoom
In-Person: May 6, 2026 | 6:00-8:00 pm | Northeast Minneapolis

This space is for immigrants, refugees, educators, students, faith leaders, nonprofit workers, small business owners, healthcare providers, and anyone holding this moment with us.

Registration required: https://gcv-listening-sessions.eventbrite.com

Your story matters. And it deserves to be told on your own terms.
