Forests in northeastern Minnesota are getting a more resilient future. 🌱

In the Brimson Complex fire area, we’re working with partners to plant a mix of tree species to help forests better withstand climate change, pests and disease. It’s a lot like a diverse stock portfolio—more diversity improves the chances of surviving change and stress.

By helping nature regenerate where it’s needed most, we’re working to keep these forests strong and thriving for generations to come. 🌲

Good news from the North Shore! 🌲

We’ve partnered with Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center to place a conservation easement on 928 acres—permanently protecting forests, cliffs, lakes and an outdoor classroom for generations of future students.

This is a place where moose roam, eagles nest and undisturbed, old-growth forest still stands. It’s also where thousands of students come each year to learn outside—exploring these woods and waters that are now protected for the long term.

With support from Minnesota’s Outdoor Heritage Fund, this project shows how partnerships and public investment can deliver lasting benefits for people and nature. 💚

Today is World Peatlands Day! From Minnesota to North Carolina, Indonesia and Mongolia, The Nature Conservancy is working with local partners to protect and restore this vital ecosystem.

Did you know:
📍 Minnesota has more peatlands than any other state in the Lower 48—totaling about 6 million acres.
🌲 Peatlands only cover 3% of the Earth’s surface, but they store one quarter of the Earth's soil carbon — more carbon than in the world's forest biomass.
💧Peatlands store 10% of the planet's unfrozen freshwater, making them critical for healthy communities.
⌛ It takes thousands of years for peatlands to form, accumulating one millimeter at a time.
🌏 Peatlands can be found in 180 countries.

Across northeastern Minnesota, our tree planting crews are still hard at work with an ambitious goal: planting 3.2 million trees this spring—a record for us.

With the finish line getting closer, will we hit it? 🌲 Follow our tree planting tracker and watch the numbers climb in real time: https://nature.ly/4dJTrxQ

Pride Month reminds us that q***rness isn’t just human—it’s part of nature, too.

Across the natural world, plants, animals and ecosystems defy simple categories. When we let go of rigid binaries, we see that diversity is one of nature’s greatest strengths—and ours.

By looking at the world through a q***r ecological lens, we can better appreciate the full spectrum of life and avoid erasing the things that don’t fit neatly into boxes.

This Pride Month, let’s celebrate the beautifully complex, wonderfully q***r world we’re part of. 🌿💛💜🌈

Grasslands are Earth's most threatened ecosystem, yet a powerhouse for nature and people alike. Though so much of Minnesota's grasslands have been lost, hope remains.

These vital landscapes continue to keep our water clean, nourish livestock, offer incredible recreation and provide crucial wildlife habitat.

We’re working to protect what's left and restore what’s been lost. Our grasslands are counting on all of us.

Among the most at-risk ecosystems on Earth, grasslands offer climate solutions, vital habitat and a way of life.

Minnesota’s peatlands are climate superheroes—storing massive amounts of carbon and shaping some of the state’s most unique landscapes. But when these ecosystems are drained or degraded, they can start releasing greenhouse gases instead.

Our scientists are stepping in with innovative monitoring tools (which look a bit like Ghostbusters gear!) to measure emissions and take the first steps toward restoring these incredible landscapes. Their research in northern Minnesotan bogs highlights just how vital healthy peatlands are for climate resilience and biodiversity.
