On April 8th, our SME student chapter attended the 2025 SME Minnesota Conference in Virginia, MN where all our board members of attendance were honored with scholarships! Thank you for your generous support.

Then on April 11th, our GeoWall team attended the 2025 ASCE Western Great Lakes Student Symposium in Milwaukee, and we are thrilled to announce our team secured 2nd place! 🏆

Today, the SME student chapter toured the Soudan Underground Mine—Minnesota’s oldest and deepest iron mine. Over half a mile underground, we explored the state’s mining legacy just overlooking NewRange area!

On Wednesday, we had the privilege of meeting Julie Lucas, a subject matter expert on responsible production of mineral resources! Julie shared powerful insights on sustainable extraction methods, the integration of AI in mining operations, and the evolving role of engineers in protecting our planet.

Her visit was an important reminder of the delicate balance between ethics, environmental health, and economy growth. 🌎⚙️

We are looking forward to seeing MiningMinnesota again at the Society for Mining, Metallurgy, & Exploration (SME) Minnesota Conference next week in Virgina, MN!
